I have been looking for new lower grill to replace the plastic one that was constantly becoming unclipped on the bottom and found one from M7 that has an additional benefit that may actually be more import in the long run. This one is open completely across the entire lower opening which if you look at the stock one was not the case by a long shot. This will certainly offer more cooling air for the engine compartment . It is made of black powder coated metal and is mounted securely with three screws. I will try to take some better photos soon but at least you can get the idea as to what it looks like. It will also be offered in silver. Randy

I like it, Sorta reminds me of chain mail. Problem is if it gets nicked up from all the road debris if it is painted so bare metal is a good choice. Something that doesn't rust.

I got an idea. What about doing the same gille treatment on the bonnet grille and the upper bumper grille? Just needs some sort of trim piece. Maybe would let more air through as well which is a functional advantage. Change the bonnet scoop and make it larger with the same grille material to match. Maybe make it power coated black or to color of choice. Fashionable and functional!

Here is a before and after as requested. There is something for everyone when building up a Mini to be YOURS. I went thru the same thing with my 1966 S many years ago. Everyone is entitled to a opinion and I respect everyone's rite to express theirs with either words or with the way they build up their own car. Always keep in mind tho that YOUR opinion should matter most with YOUR own car and like the kids say " its all good " Randy

You say that this is also available for the MC. Will this fit the stock front apron or is it for the Aero kit only? Also how much would such a thing cost? Cuz im gonna get one

Hey......

I will make it available for the MC.... asap.
Stainless will not happen but we will have a yummy silver powder coat available next week.
And to get your own M7 Ultimate grill call Mini Mania they should have them in stock by mid next week.
The unit fits the stock and aero kit.

Price: about $ 140.00

This is great news!! I've wanted an option besides the black aero, the chrome, or the painted grill for an S for a long time now, but the coolest looking ones always show up w/ body kits which aren't available in the US. PLEASE post pics of these grills as soon as possible. I am definitely a potential customer.

This is detrimental to cooling. The way the stock grill works, if the air wants to go through the lower grill, it has to go through the radiator. When you open it up like that, you're giving the air a path of lesser resistance (ie its easier for the air to just go around the radiator than through it). So yeah you're cooling the engine compartment more but at the expense of your cooling system!

As cheese said, the stock grille is partially blocked off for a reason. You should think about getting a shroud between the radiator and the bumper opening that will make all of the air go through the radiator. That way, you can get your cooling system back up to the level it was stock (or maybe even better!).

I'm glad to see people enjoying being hosed!

If it fits both the stock and aero, do I just get a piece of uncut mesh instead of something fitted. Because if its uncut, I can spend 1/20 the price at the local home depot and enjoy the same look! BTW, I already did, and you can't tell it from an $140 version.

You raised some interesting points with the chat about the path of the air and after further review  here is my finding/opinion. The grill appears to extend about 2.5 inches to either side of the radiator. There really isn't much of a path for the air to go around the radiator however do to the radiator mount and a rubber/foam seal up both sides of the radiator. From what I can see I would not call this a path of least resistance in any way. Now for the amount of air that MAY be getting by the radiator this is more than compensated for by the greater air flow by virtue of the larger open verses covered space ratio of the new grill. Just look again at the photos and I think you will agree on that point. In any event I really respect your opinions and discussions about these sort of things are part of the fun. In any event this is my opinion and you know what they say about those  Thanks for the input,Randy

Home depot ? Hmmm interesting indeed. I was just there and i couldn't find the powder coated steel isle. Perhaps they were out of their perfectly formed edge and bracket material as well. As a matter of fact I couldn't even find one welder in the building.I tell you what take a picture of your grill like this and then we can see if anyone can tell a difference. Steve Wonder isn't allowed to vote in the is test by the way  Randy
