HID CONVERSION: alta light bar w 4x 6.25" PIAA driving lamps
Hey guys, ths is just a little teaser of what i will be doing this weekend.
Some might say its a bit excessive, but this way the light bar and my stock xenons will match, and ill get extra light output.
sorry for the crappy quality, im at school atm, so you get phone camera shots. when i do the install ill use my cannon rebel t1i DSLR with a set aperture.
HID is on the right (just temporarily popped it in to give it a look)
only the outsides are on, but the one on the left is a 110 watt halogen (PIAA super plasma gtx bulb) and this is only the 35watt kit, not the 55watt HID.
what i will have to do
cut 1" holes in the back of all the PIAA housngs.
mount balasts
change bulbs and wire it up (plug and play set up)
and then im done
now lets go light up the night

well, i did this last night at school, with only a phone camera because i had some time to kill, and what can i say but DAAAAMMMMNNNN!!!!!
these things are awesome
what you need to do
buy 2 sets of hid balasts, harnesses and bulbs from ddmtuning (35watt kit, i did mine in 5000k).
remove lights from light bar and dissasemble them.
take the housing and drill a 1" hole dead in the middle of the back of the light, right behind the bulb. this is necessary because the conversion bulb is a little longer than normal halogen bulbs on the backspacing, and the housing will not close unless you do this. (the rubber grommet provided has just a large enough cavity for it to sill be sealed. works perfect.
remove the power input leads from the harness (ones sendign power to the ballasts, red and black cable wrapped in mesh, jsut pull super firmly and they will go through the grommet, it will turn grey at some points where its stretching, but mine did not tear and went right back into their orriginal shape)
remove the old power input to the lights
connect the two sets of wires you just removed.
(see picture when i upload them, but i had to find out which wire went to witch by the old plug and play and add power method)
use some electrical tape to seal them up.
this next part is a bit of a PITA.
you have to mount the ballasts beding the front bumer, in frotn of the radiator, and get the new power lines through the front grill so you can get them to your lights.
you can mount the ballasts whenever you want, but i did it after i got the wires throught the front of the grill, then used the doubble sided sticky tape patches to mount them. install bulbs and harnesses into all of the lights, mount them and hook them up.
and you should be done.
if you have any questions, just ask.
completion time
2 hours (i also moved the car to a friends house halfway through as it got dark, and this also included the time it took me to go to lowes and buy the hole saw.)
