Looks great.

Why not do the inner part of the grille surround?

Cause I think it would be ugly

I think it looks amazing. My grill slats are still electrical tape. The rear trunk handle tape only now got bad enough I had to pull it off.

I can't find the spray platidip anywhere near me. I've checked all the home stores, and various hardware places. If I get a hold of some spray, I'm doing this.

How hard is it to remove the slats? Got any PDFs or instructions on it?

Once you have the grill off, its pretty much just unclipping the metal trim, then the slats off base. It's pretty simple. You'll see what I'm talking about if you look at it.

I couldn't find the spray type plasti dip around here either...just the black dip type. I went online and the cheapest place I found (with shipping) was through Amazon. Got a can of black and a can of red on its way...a little over 21.00 for both cans with shipping.

That's great looking. Thinking I might do this with some White PD soon.

Did you have to remove the whole front bumper to get the lower portion of the grill off? Been looking around instructions for replacing the slats with a mesh grill, and it looks like it. If so, i might get lazy and tape off the lower grill slat, but remove the upper ones

Lower portion actually doesn't come off the bumper without cutting. I took off the bumper, removed the metal surround, and then masked the bumper off with some painters tape and newspapers.

if you overspray with plasti-dip, you can just rub/peel the overspray off so no worries.

Greate idea! Looks terrific! Well done!

I did my lower grill slats with vinyl tape and tried spray paint on the upper grill. Tape is still looking good and paint is suffering from rock chips.

I can't wait to try your spray technique. What did you use and where did you get it?

I love this idea... My grille had Rallye lights mounted to it, and I had to ditch them because I hate that look... It left some rust in the paint that no clay bar/rubbing compound can get out, so I have been debating getting a new grill or painting it... I have a chili red MCS, so I am thinking of going this route... The question is, do I black out the chrome too? If I do, I think I have to do the headlight rings also... Then what's next? I am afraid it wont ever end! lol...

Plastidip spray found in the spray paint section of Home Depot. Came out to $6 and change with tax.

Here's another pic for you all:

I did mine a few years' back with sign-maker's vinyl tape, but it's starting to get a bit worn. I'm going to do this on the next go-round.... Looks good!

Just did mine today, except I found it much much easier just to tape off both grills... turned out perfect.

I've seen lots of pics like that of people doing this, and i have been debating on doing it, i was wondering how durable it is and how long it lasts? Does it come off easy when dried and is it easy to chip and mess it up?

It should last a pretty long time as long as you use plastidip - its like a "rubbery" coating, and rarely chips like normal spray paint. it is really easy to take off if you dont like it - just use a sponge and water, and a little scrubbing, no problem.

Plastidip FTW

so if it just takes some water and scrubbing, would it mess up in the rain? or even car washes?
