So I got a Mini... noob headlight question

Just formerly welcoming myself to the community. I've come from the VW scene, and just got bored after having 2 show worthy cars.

Picked myself up an '05 S Pepper White. I've got an intake, pulleys and BC coils on the way. I came across the R56 headlights today, like this, http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/8179/teaserpn4.jpg.

I was wondering if these fit on the r53? If so, I'm assuming there'd be some harness errors I'd have to deal with, or would it be a rather easy PnP setup? I currently have the auto-leveling Xenons. Anyone who can help me out, I'd really appreciate it!

Sorry...haven't done it....but...
The mounting system is totally different....on Gen1 cars they are mounted to the bonnet, and they go up and down with it....on Gen2 cars, they are mounted to the substructure, and remain when the hood is opened.
Just about every part on a gen2 car is incompatible when compared to a gen1 car...dimensionally...and electronically. They may look similar...but that is where the similarity ends...The differences between the the two gen mechanically is so huge...the only similarity's are they are both MINI's, and they look similar. Interchanging parts just don't work.

Suspension pieces can be swapped, sometimes lol. As far as the headlights, the exterior lens contour is completely different as well, so even if you got it mated up it wouldn't look right IMO.

Someone has placed a r56 jcw sideskirt to a r53 and it looks amazing IMO.

How about going from the R53 halogen to the R53 projector's on the 05+ cars? I think those bolt in but you'll need the sensor for the rear if I heard correctly.

Thanks for the info all. I appreciate the help. I just love the look of the R56 lights, but I will guess I'll just Joey-mod my xenons and deal with them for the time being.

I also noticed today that one of my high beam/running lights had went out. Is there a solution for an LED or an HID conversion for such spot? I haven't done any research yet so I will go ahead and do that. I just was asking if anyone knew off the top of their head, only because the standard white/yellow color light is rather bleh.... ugly. haha.

No sensor required, but you do need to get the ECU flashed otherwise the xenons will just flicker.

If you want the Auto Leveling feature to work, you will need two sensors, one up front and one in the rear. One is on the right wheel and one is on the left.

You could do LED, they would look good as DRLs but would not work as high beams. I would not put in HID because the DRLs are running at 50% power, HIDs would only work when you had high beams activated.

what about those luminics bulbs that come in like pure white and what not, I'd be down for those, but I was unsure if they would work at 50% power. I'm just trying to ditch that ugly white/yellow.

If it's halogen, it would work. I agree, I hate the yellow too.

I appreciate the info Justin. Much nicer response than I would get on VWvortex lol.

Also, the lower lights, that have the blinker next to them, is there an option for an LED there also?

Yeah, definitely. I put white LEDs in there, I found that you need ones that have an led on each side of the bulb, so one that has like 5 on it, it fills up and is a lot brighter. I got mine from http://superlumination.com/194.htm. You just have to be careful your 194 bulb isn't one that has more than 5 LEDs on it or it may not fit into the opening. It gets kinda tight.

And you're welcome. The only thing I'm a ***** about is when people put HID kits into their headlights when they are supposed to have halogen.

haha yeah my buddy put a 6000k kit in his jetta with the reflector headlights, and he blinds everyone that's in front of him; it got real annoying, real fast.

I was unsure if they were the 194's or not. I have some laying around in my garage that I'm going to toss in. Thanks for the info and insight!

You can replace your blinker if you like.
