Hey all,

I did some extensive searching on here, and I couldn't find any threads already about Smoked Side Markers. I'm not sure if they exist, anyone seen these around? Also, is it illegal in California to have a smoked third brake light? I'm wondering if it would look weird to have smoked tail lights, and a red third brake light...

These are what I'm considering...

Also, anyone know anywhere else these are available?

Thanks for all your help!

Have you considered tinted film on the lights,lamin-x has pre cut tints for rear and side lights for $45. I want to do this option, but live in California, and am scared of fix it tickets from the cops around here in the O.C.

I got my tinted side markers from http://www.rspeed.net. I think they were under $30. They're really easy to install, and have stayed on without any problems for 3 months now.

Great! Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check out both of those options. I can't believe I didn't check rspeed, I'm about to order an exhaust from them next week...

The Lamn-X option is very intriguing, I'm not sure what the laws are here in cali though... It sure would be a shame to lose out on that 35.00 if I got pulled over and was given a fix-a-ticket... Hm...

Anyone familiar on the laws for smoked out tail lights in cali?

I believe the ones that R-Speed sells are Lamin-x. If you do a search there are some threads from way back when about the tinted tail lights. I think that here in Cali we can't have tinted lights, but it all depends on if the cops are going to bother you about it. Kind of like tinted front windows, illegal here, but a lot of people have it anyways, me included

Yeah, I talked to a friend of mine who is with the LA County Sheriff's Dpt., and he said that he thought it was pretty much illegal to do any type of tinting to the rear lights. The cool thing about the Lamin-X is that it's 30.00, unlike if you were to get the full smoked light assembly like I have listed above, which is almost 400.00. It would suck to have to remove that for a fix-a-ticket!

Yeah I e-mailed Lamin-x asking if they had a lighter shade of tint for the taillights, because the ones they have were too dark, and I'd be asking for a ticket. They told me that they currently only have that one shade. I think that if there was something that was halfway between stock and the tint that Lamin-x currently sells, that would be perfect.

Thanks for the info, I am wondering how do you thin out the paint? Also I assume that you would take off the lights and spray a couple of coats on. I would probably have to take it to a paint shop. Any ideas of the cost for this

Cheers

No_Affiliation is my boyfriend, with my MINI we had them blacked out with clearcoat with black added. We had a friend who paints to the job for us. I don't know the cost that a shop would charge.

to bad i dont have a car to put them on till tuesday, when i pick up my ds/ds MCS

i found them at CTD in Germany and had them shipped for around 30 bucks i think.
they are trick. not tinted but black in the background under the lens.

as far as tinting the 3rd brake light. consider tint spray, its 10 bucks at your local ricer aftermarket shop.

rock out with your **** out!

Yeah I like those... How long did it take to get them? Are they quality? Or do they look cheesy? 30.00 is a good price... Thanks!
