so after about two weeks of work i just installed some bright red mirror caps on silvers mini cooper s today. take a look and tell us what you think. i myself was not sure at first, but after seeing them on the car i think they look great.

Good work. But, no offense intended when I say I don't care for the red mirrors on your car. You got me thinking. I've wanted to do something similar, but to a greater extent. I would like to take a MINI and, instead of the regular white or black roof and mirrors, paint the vehicle in another accent color. I would include the bonnet stripes too. I've thought of something like a college or professional sports team colors. Anyway, I think if you did the mirror caps in British flags that would be even better. No matter what anyone thinks on the color selection, you've added another conversation point and an easy way to find your car at a MINI event.

 

I think it would look even better if you added more red accents. Perhaps some bonnet stripes that are red and black?

or even a red banner across the top of the winshield might do the trick.
did you just paint the caps or does someone sell different colors?
(i want to get mine indi-blue).

Reminds me of the color scheme on a Northrop F-89 (Korean War era fighter interceptor) My dad was a crew chief on one in Thule, Greenland. Saw pics of that plane many , many times. I like it! I like the towhook as well....did that to my Cooper.

 

I like it....brings to mind this fabulous endurance champion from the early 90's, although it had flourescent red mirrors...

Hey Chad,

Two thumbs up on that mod. Some of the F-1 teams do the same thing, and it helps to rapidly identify the driver in otherwise nearly identical vehicles. For instance David Coulthard and Kimi Raikkonen both drive the silver arrow Mercedes-McLarens but just try to spot their car numbers as they race past at 280 Km per. It's much easier to spot the different coloured mirrors. So I say, good job! great mod.

Thanks to Chad for the great job. This is my car Chad's talking about. The red mirror idea WAS lifted directly from the Lemans tradition. I think it's sporty... though I wish it wasn't so big. Reminds me of red M&Ms. I've always got the original black covers if I get tired of them. It now seem to want the Aero spoiler in the same color....DEVIL'S TAIL

i think the biggest problem with them, is there is no other red on the car to match currently. If you add more accents of red, it would be kool

Honestly, it's too bad we didn't show a side view. Between the red brakes, sway bar, centercaps...there's plenty of red to tie to.

I think if the red was darker it would look OK, but yeah, red bonnet stripes are badly needed

maybe ifyou had a red roof....... hmmmmm...

yeah i need to take better photo's. he really does have lots of red on the car, and he didn't have the seat belts in the car that really show up red (the Schroth Harness). he also has a red alta intake under the bonnet. over all it looks like he has a good theam going on with out over doing it. maybe he could post a side shot for eveyone with the seat belts in.

Have to agree with those that think more red is needed to pull this off. Right now it looks too much like the caps came off another car and are waiting to be painted. The suggestions of red striping and visor strip would be something to consider.

 

I think that the red side mirrors can work with a little help from a bit more red on the sides like some red checkerboard patterned wave or stripe or something.

Red roof vinyl design
Red/black racing meatball number on sides
Red racing graphic on side panels/doors
Red Laminex tint to front lights
Red and black bonnet and rear hatch stripes
Red wheel accents
Red upholstery
Red racing helmet and gloves
Red painted wheel arches and side skirts

Bottomline- both silver and black are neutral so red can work as an accent.
