weighted shift **** questions

howdy all

looking to get a new shift **** for my 6spd '03 MCS, and was looking at one from TWM:

Does the shift **** need to be a certain weight in order to function properly? Feels like a dumb question to ask, but you never know, Minis are pretty idiosyncratic.

The steel "M1 Abrams" weighs 460 grams, and in aluminum it's 150 grams; any advice on which might be better would be most appreciated! Also, any experience with this brand would be great to hear as well.

Sorry, but the TWM shift pattern engraving looks like it was done by a child with an electric engraving pen.

yup, checked out the Whalen *****, and while they look really nice I was thinking of going aluminum, not s/s, hence my question about weight.

Not sure about the engraving; unless you've actually compared these ***** in the flesh (that doesn't sound right), the engraving looks pretty similar going by the pics on the websites:

Maybe its just the photo, but the engraving does look a bit funky. I have a whalen and I like it. Some people swear the heavier Whalen **** made a positive difference over the stock lighter ****, but I did not feel any difference.

Thanks for the info guys. After looking at it a bit longer, the engraving on the Whalen unit does indeed look nicer than that of the TWM ****.

I'm not entirely sure how I'm feeling about shelling out $80-$150 for a shift ****; I did see these on display at a local ornate gate/stair/fencing place, and for $20 I might order one up. I wonder what size the whole is drilled?..

Generic "hollow ball" vs something purpose-built for the MINI. Your money, your call.
