Chrome trim removal and installation

So I unsuccessfully removed the chrome trim from the rear window on the deck lid. The molding in question I would refer to as the belt line chrome molding. In the diagram it is #2. I think I broke some of the mounting strip (#3) by trying to remove 3 and 2 as one piece. I know this is something that on the assembly line probably takes 2 seconds, but removal of trim is hard for the first time even if you know the tricks.

Does someone know how, have any info, or tricks? I would like to know how to remove both the trim, and the clip rail.

I am painting the car btw, last night I was replacing the lift gate and removing the rear window, hence the removal. Probably didn’t help that I was doing it in the dark while holding a flashlight!

So you got the rear window off? I was told that the chrome strip was mounted to the glass. I'm interested also

It is the cover on the C column. The left side (driver) one is HERE and the right side (passenger) one is HERE. Let me know if you have any other questions.
