Is there a way to rewire the dealer installed driving lights so i can turn them on when i want them on?Don't like the fact that the high beams have to be on for them to work. I did a search and find anything. Thanks for your help.

Depending on when you want the lights to come on, here are a few configurations.

1. With Hi beam: as OEM wiring.

2. With Low beam: connect the remote lead (the aux light switch wire) to the low beam wire of the head light.

3. With parking light: connect the remote lead to the parking light wire or any wire that provides interior illumination. For your application, the closest wire would be the grey/pink wire of the harness that goes to the Tach on top of the steering wheel.

4. With ignition on: connect to a wire that has power when ignition is on. Be careful with which wire you choose, it can set off warning lights if tap into the wrong wire. The wire going to the cigarette lighter is usually a safe bet. Some people take the power directly from the fuse box by the driver side kickpanel or under the bonnet.

I hope this helps!

I ran the switch power wire into fuse # 36. With ignition on, power is available. HERE

Hey guys,

I had my aftermarket 4 lamps professionally wired up (I did all the hard work) because I too didn't know where to get power and one supposed expert told me wrong. So after the install I checked all of his work and he tied the power for the switch into the track lighting of the car. Of course the other lines went to the positive and negative of the battery. But with the lights going to the track lighting, you don't have to have any headlights on, just your lighting at each of your corners as well as the back brake lights and what not. So you can flash other MINI drivers in the day time and not blind everyone else with your high beams. Also the power should come from a small connection just below the battery box somewhere around the drivers side wheel arch. That runs all of the track lighting, all you need to get is an electrical line and hook them up to your switches and relays.
