Interior/Exterior 1st. Gen. JCW brake upgrade on the cheap
#27
So far I have purchased a set of 2011 R56 S front calipers, Red Stuff brake pads, Centric (aka Stop Tech) Slotted and Drilled rotors, all 3 sizes of the JCW Original style decals (still was not sure which ones will fit). Now I'm shopping for a set of SS brake lines. I will pick up the brake paint locally unless someone knows where to buy it cheap on line.

c0op3r - you've inspired me to do this upgrade! Picked up some r56 front calipers at a junkyard today. Your guide seems to suggest that the r53 and r56 rear calipers are the same, and so the only thing I need to do is take them off to paint them. Is this correct?

No physical difference, So if you want to go all the way on the rears, Paint them and sticker and if you want them even better:

Thanks dude. I will be following your guide.
When you painted the fronts did you allow extra time for the red to dry before applying clear? Did you cure the paint at all? I won't be putting them on the car straight away and prefer not to use the household oven. If the paint will cure at room temp over a couple of weeks, that will work great for me.

I cleaned them thoroughly with soap and simple green, sprayed them in Florida 80°F+ temp with 3 coats 15 to 20 minutes between coats.
I let that cure over night, applied stickers the next day and clear coated them in place with two coats, one over the whole brake, and the second mainly over the stickers. Let cure over night and installed the next morning.
Are you going to do the Brass Bushings? I highly suggest it since you will have them apart anyway.

Put a dab of the copper impregnated grease on the Stainless Steel Post, and rub it so its thin and even and I have never had to mess with it again since.

I just received my JCW stickers. It looks like this sticker fits the FRONT brakes the best; Brake Decals to fit john cooper works, Brake JCW: Red White Black , Size: JCW Original front 13x75mm. I am not sure about the rears yet. Another question for you c0op3r, and I know I read something about it. I bought 2011 R56S rotors, am I going to have an issue with the lug bolt and hub hole sizes?
