I just installed my PIAA driving lights just like the directions say and I hooked up the switched power to the yellow/green wire on the drivers side lights and when I turn on the high beams the PIAA's come on just like they are supposed to but now my Xenons do not turn off. YIKES!!! Is the yellow/green wire the correct one?

I know something is really wrong so can someone tell me why this would be happening?

Thanks,

Jason

When the PIAA's and highbeams are on, the xenons are not supposed to turn off.

If you have a problem where the xenons won't turn off at all, you might have fried the unit that controls the highbeams/xenons.

I hope not, as I was talking about this with my BMW mechanic today when we were discussing how to modify my MINI so that I can use higher rated highbeam bulbs. Additional relays are needed to do this, and he said one of his customers had put in 100watt bulbs into a BMW and blew out his "lighting control module" or something like that.

When this customer installed the wrong wattage bulbs, the symptom that indicated that the control module was fried was that it caused the lights to stay on no matter what. I hope this is not the case for you as it might be expensive to fix. My mechanic said for the BMW it was about $300.

So your saying that when the PIAA's are on the High beam bulds, the Xenon bulbs, and the PIAA's are all going? When it is just the head lights by themselves, do the Xenons go off when the high beams are activated?

The lights turn off and everything just fine, I don't think I fried the relays or anything. I just always thought the Xenons turned off when high beams are on.

Sorry for the confusion but I not quite sure what is supposed to happen.

Your xenons will always be on whether you are using high beams or not.

To overly-clarify this, you now have 5 lighting options (assuming you have fogs too)

1) Xenon
2)Xenon + Fog lights
3) Xenon + highbeam (fogs turn off when high beam is used)
4 Xenon + highbeam + PIAA's
5) Parking lights + fog lights (my favorite for low key daytime running)

Thank you so much for the clarification, that is exactly what I needed. I just picked up my car last Friday so I'm still getting to know it.
