<--- waiting for someone to ask JCW to provide charts for downforce, drag coeficients, and the change in max speed, along with a final report from their wind tunnel testing.

For well over 300 bucks, I could think of like 300 other much more tasteful things I could do to my mini. Egads, man! Do you want to pop wheelies at 90 mph. Our Mini's are already just about the aerodynamic equivilent of a brick wall (albeit, a small one). Will adding a race type wing make a brick wall move faster, or look better???

Taste is subjective. If you like it - it's your car, and your $>300.

I guess if you plan to make your mini into a race car... i would get
something that's carbon fiber if it's going to be adjustable though.

Whether I like it visually or not, I think the Works MCSs actually use these and I don't think they're given to messing around. IMO, it'd be worth finding out about this wing first before dismissing it.

I cant give you facts and figures regarding aero pieces but I can try to relate a real world experiment just recently completed with my car. Turn 7 and 8 at willow springs is a linked rather high speed and what i thought smoothly paved section of track. On my previous visit i was able to enter the turn at about 95+ and exit at about 90 and the surface of the turn felt very smooth. On my last visit with three additional aero pieces the turn felt alarmingly lumpy for lack of a better description. What we were able to finally figure out as the rest of the set up was identicle to the first visit that the added down force was compressing the shocks and taking up some of the already limited suspension travel which caused me to be more sensative to the road surface. I was able to build my speed up to a entry speed of a little over 100 and carry more thru the exit as well but i do no think I was on the edge in any way as I was still a little leary from my previous rather dramatic off road excursion on the last trip there. I am switching out the KW coil overs for a set of Leda shocks and we feel that we will be able to tune these better for the added down force. One other difference I noticed is that there is a little tight turn at the top of a crest where I was able to just let off the gas and turn the wheel at the same time and the rear end would drift out nicely waiting for the application of gas to pull it all straight again . With the new pieces no such luck and I had to learn a entire new technique thru that turn. Again I have no numbers for you tech types but I am trying to explain what the results were not so much as how they were acheived physics wise. I can do the same thing regarding front strut tower braces which DO work and i can prove it but that is another whole ball of wax LOL . The pieces added to my car are all from M7 and consist of the front splitter, rear wing and rear lower diffuser.

maxmini I just want to say you have a very sweet car! Reassures me that my DS/B will look mighty fine

Something a lil more on topic...I haven't seen any company that puts out aero kits/add ons for the MINI show any hard data.

Max, thanks for sharing your experience!

Surely, the JCM wing are used on all the John Cooper Challenge vehicles for a good reason other than aesthetic.

Thank you for the kind words. I agree with you that JCW wouldn't do it for the looks. It was a funny thing but I had my top wing on just about a week before the JCW pictures hit the web. I admit i was feeling like i was in for a lot of flack from the " anti rice " crowd but was willing to take it because I really felt it was working. After the JCW piece came out i was even more sure of my feelings . I don't really get the anti rice movemnt entirely anyway I mean I think that if someone could get a honda vtec in there it would make for a hell of a powerplant with unbeleivable power capabilities AND reliability. I ran up agains a classic mini with this transformation and you couldn't even keep it in sight .He was weighing in at 1100 lbs with a almost stock 180 hp vtec in it . Avery professional ricer indeed
