Was at the dealer yesterday... (They take such great care
of me!)... And decided to replace my rubber floor matts.
My car smells new again! Wow! For 50 bucks, I replaced
the most worn part of the car and the whole car seems
brand-new! I am so easily pleased.

Dogspeed.

Once I clean my rubber mats they look like new but don't smell like new.
When I condition my leather seats they have a new leather smell.
I have to do the upkeep on the leather seats in any event so the good smell is a plus but it doesn't last too long. Maybe a week or so.

That's a good tip about the rubber mats for anyone that wants to sell a MINI and make it seem like new.

I turn on my A/C and set it on "recirculate"...it seems to freshen the new-car smell a little.

Is there any product that is out there that makes the "new car smell?" I mean, I know there is the good ol' tree from the rear view, but that doesnt smell like a new car... is there any other product that makes that? Does Mini sell anything like that? Someone would make a killing if they came up with something like that.... hmmm... just a random thought!

^ Go to Pep Boys or one of those other chain autoparts stores... They always sell a spray that supposedly leaves the "new car smell." Of course, as others here have pointed out, the smell is simply deteriorating plastic...and probably causes cancer...but hey, if it trips your trigger...

I hear model cement and a paper bag works well too.

If you want to keep this set of rubber mats in great shape........try Griot's Rubber
Cleaner followed by a coat of Armor-all........every so often.
