Seeking Gauge Advice
I was going to install two Marshall gauges to monitor engine health and I was wondering what people consider to be most helpful. I was leaning towards oil pressure and water temperature. I have seen the ScanGauge, but I want an oem look.
Also, has anyone installed four gauges around the tach? I'm not sure if there is enough room to see more than two, and I haven't been able to find and pictures.
Thanks in advance.

You may have to piggy back them. Do you really want to know that your MCS and pre 2013 JCW and GP2 water temp runs at 225F all the time?[/IMG]

well to kick off the discussion the two you mention is what you'd find in a classic Cooper ..
oil pressure and water temp. (mine is NOT a Cooper, but I copy the 3 dial pod)
oil P is probably the most critical after temp and last time I checked oil p' was one thing SCAN G does NOT do
if I was going up to 4 I'd get something to monitor electric health - people argue which is more useful amps or volt but either one can tell you health of the charging system if you know how to read it. If you have an S you probably want a boost g' just for the fun of it.
You can build a 4 mount with the CravenSpeed modular system .. see Mini specific pictures at http://www.cravenspeed.com/flexpod-double-cup/
{and for what it is worth, my 14 Focus ST came with (standard): tach, speedo, fuel (of course), water temp, oil temp, oil pressure and boost pressure}

AEM makes a series of gauges that are dual function so you might look at those and maybe you can get your 4 gauges worth in two pods.
Yes, there is a kit to install 4 gauges around the OEM unit, I have seen it a couple times.
I am putting three gauges on the A-Pillar, and people love to say that the gauges will fly off if the airbag deploys but that is from the people that are only parroting the common internet comments.
There are tethers that hold that panel in place, and it only has to swing away about 3 inches to let the side curtain deploy.

@captbj: my ear would be the gauge I would have to rely on for a non catastrophic but serious malfunction. The human ear is excellent at catching tone changes and has excellent response time. Not very elegant but pretty cheap! Most wanted gauges would be oil pressure / water temperature, op #1 since a pressure drop tends to be very expensive and a wt spike usually ends up in visible steam. My main gripe with the Gen1 Mini and most german cars are lack of gauges.
