I've read several threads about windows skipping when being raised or lowered. People reasoned that it was the tinted windows that were causing this.

Is there a quick fix for this? Maybe some sort of lubricant on the rubber stripping at the base of the window. Has anybody done this? My windows do this everyday now that it's getting pretty warm here.

All my previous cars have had tinted windows, and none of the windows had any issues with the windows skipping. Another MINI uniqueness

I don't think it is necessarily the tinting that is a cause of this. My car which does not have tinted windows does this occasionally on the drivers side when the car is sitting for a long time in the sun with the window down. The passenger side never does it under the same conditions. I will have the dealer check it out on the next visit.

My untinted windows do this occasionally. Not sure what is happening, but I am going to make sure to report it to the dealer at least before the warranty runs out in case this turns into the same sort of window regulator fiasco that some of us experienced with VW's a few years ago.. . .

there is no way tint is going to have anything to do with this problem.

silly

the tint is way to thin and unobtrusive to cause anything to go wrong

It may be too thin to cause problems but thesurface drag is higher than glass on the seals...thats the problem.

I agree that the tint shouldn't be the cause of the problem, since my other cars, tinted at the same shop don't do this.

However, I'm sure the dealerships will be quick to point out that the window tint is the cause of this.

My windows have "stuttered" in the past when the window or the weatherstip rubber gets dirty or sticky. Wash the rubber weatherstipping well , even down in the recess when open. Let it dry very well and if needed, apply a little talc. Wipe off all excess since the talc may be a little abrasive on the tint film over time. Sounds like you need to reduce the friction between the surfaces - dry and smooth works well.

I had the same problem. It went down fine, but when I tried to roll it up, it would "skip" or stutter on the way up. I told the dealership about it when I took it in for service, and they said it was just a dirty track or something. Well, the motor went out last week.

I took it in for service yesterday. They replaced the power window motor. Imagine that.

I don't have tinted windows but, I'll bet waxing or using RainX on both the inside and outside of windows will help. I do that all the time and you can tell the power windows move easier.

my car does the same thing only when left in sun light for a long time, it does it on both sides only on going up. i think the problem is the motor not the tint,i have factory tint. ( wich means they took my MCS to some one and haded tint and they charged me for it). i will talk too the dealer at my next servive appt.
