Moonroof price?

What is the cost of the moonroof if you don't get it with the package that cost 1300?

It should say when your building your MINI on miniusa.com. I didn't get the package and I believe I paid $800 for an 03.

$800 alone

$800 for the Dual pane power sunroof option alone.
$1300 in the Premium package which includes trip computer, multifunction steering wheel, automatic Air conditioner with micro filter and air recirculation, and cruise control.

Is there a difference between a sunroof and a moonroof? MINI calls it a sunroof.

Thats one way to say it or you could think $500 more for trip computer, multifunction steering wheel, automatic Air conditioner with micro filter and air recirculation, and cruise control

I think it's a big mistake to not get the sunroof. It really makes the car feel more open. The Premium package is definitely the way to go if you're going to get it though. All the things in that package I find very useful on a daily basis.

If you feel it's out of your price range, consider that it only adds roughly $20 a month to your payment.

I highly recommend you drive in a Mini with a sunroof and then without to see for yourself.

Well I've driven both and I prefer it without the sun roof. Surprisingly its the first car I've owned that hasn't had a sunroof

What I didn't like about the sunroof (in order) was:

It killed the clean lines of the white roof
The sunroof opens onto the roof not into the roof and is noisier than any other sunroof I've had.
The screen wasn't 100% opaque
The numerous compaints about Sunroof rattles on the Mini forums

On the other hand I liked:
The one touch open
No loss of headroom
Panel in the back seat

I've driven a cooper with the sunroof for a week as a loaner and found the 50% screens bothersome.

Agree, the premium package is the only necessity... sports package is garbage, but the premium gives you a bunch of useful things, plus a cool **** sunroof.

In my parlance:
sunroof is solid metal - can't see through
mooroof is glass - so you can see the moon if you're too much of a sissy to have the dang thing open at night.

If the price increases match the last ones, the price will probably go up $50 for the package, and maybe for the *roof as well.

The diff between a sunroof and moonroof are that one opens all the way and the other just opens to a vented position. Don't know which is which.

I have the sunroof and have had my car for about 8 months. Have no rattle. I've gotten used to the noise, but if you want, Moss sells a windscreen for the sunroof. You can also get a white decal from cooperflags to cover the roof, thus darkening/tinting the sunroof and making it almost opaque.

If was to do it over again, I would not get the Premium package!! The MFSW & computer are great , the auto A/C, well now that a different story. I want a climate control that responds, when you turn it off it is off and not on slightly because MINI thinks it is better. As for the sun/moon roof:
  • rattles, in being worked on again, had the cassette that the roof sits in replaced, still rattles
  • rattles when venting
  • a whole lotta noise on the highway when open
  • the aftermarket wind deflectors don't solve the problem because the opening is so large.
  • the additonal 70lbs of weight
