Help Identifying Glue

The previous owner of my Mini used some sort of funky glue to do something with the back emblem. I'm planning on taking it off and replacing it, but am trying to figure out what the heck they used and if there is any way to clear it off without causing a larger problem.

Some kind of glue it looks like Seriously, hit it with a blow dryer or heat gun. Go easy if you use a heat gun. Should loosen it enough to pull it off. It remains to be seen if you will be able to get all old glue off.

It's so bubbly yet solid. I didn't know if it would stand out to someone.

It looks like gorilla glue. If so, when using it on wood you moisten one piece with water and apply glue to other piece and join.

I would try some goof off or acetone and a q tip and test it to see if it can be cleaned off.

Yeesh. If it's Gorilla Glue I might be better off just leaving it if some of the sites I'm reading are any indication.

That emblem is just stuck on. You can order a replacement. They can be easily removed with some fishing line and a sawing motion to cut the adhesive.

I removed one on a gen 2 car and it had 2 alignment pegs that fit holes on the body, but once you cut thru the adhesive tape it is pretty easy. I just used 2 sided body tape from the local auto store to apply the new one.

Right - I get that is how you TYPICALLY would do so, but it looks like he used Gorilla Glue at some point to hold on the one I have (see the photo on the first post). I don't want to destroy my trunk to remove the emblem, I guess.

I dont think that the gorilla glue is holding the "wings" to the car. I think the glue is holding the "mini" roundel to the wings ? There fore the fishing line trick may work.

Also I'm guessing that the yellow snot looking glue is 3m yellow weather strip adhesive. Although gorilla glue is a good guess. Gorilla glue dries in the air like fine styrofoam almost like what you get when expanding foam leaks out of a joint. Just my .02

I agree with Drivehard. I think he glued the MINI circle back into the center of the wings.

That hadn't occurred to me. Then I might just give it a go removing it.

Ironically, in the automotive business, 3M yellow, is called Gorilla Snot.

Just replace the entire emblem...wings and all...once the inner part falls off...tuff to get it to look right...
Part was under $20 if I recall.
Water gets under the center part...the glue fails. The center falls off...
