It's also a racing car, which is completely different from life on the street.

Sorry if I took anyone’s post wrong. I understand the safety point of view. The point I was attempting to make was, posting a picture of a car smashed from the rear and stating I am in eminent doom because of the tint is really kind of pointless. Yes the pic I posted was a race car, but the other post wasn’t a MINI! Both pictures had cars with smashed rears; however neither really had much relevance to this discussion besides the fact that collisions involving the rear end of cars happen. I intended this thread to be about the aesthetic appeal of the modified tail lights, not a safety "what if". I appreciate everyone’s posts and hope everyone continues to express their opinions freely, as will I. I am just trying to get things back on track. If anyone would like to discuss the safety factor of this mod, please feel free to PM me and I will gladly debate it with you. Thanks!

I don't like experimenting with my only set of functional lights. I will do the same as I did with the tails and purchase a set to mock a set of one-offs. If they turn out nice and I like the look, then I will do another set as the final set. We were thinking about blacking out the massive chrome areas around the "lights" to give more definition and then doing a light tint (simular to the tails) to the inside of the lenses. I have seen quite a few cars, both oem and aftermarket, with this look and I must say, it looks very nice. I will see if I can dig up some pix and post.

I suppose by "massive chrome around the 'lights'" you mean the headlight housing...I was thinking it would look better without tinting the actual lense/cover (w/e you wanna call it) and just painting the housing black. Keep us/me updated on the headlights...

Yeah i don't know how that would look, cuz you still have too much chrome there...would it be possible to black out the entire housing? like some wrx's have done...and have it work correctly without reducing any lighting...Cuz that would really look sweet

The only way to black it all out is to have projectors instead of light housings like the mini has....thats what wrx's have, they are projectors.

In terms of getting it opened and stuff, good luck. It's been tried before by a few people, and it ended up very unsucessfull

Well if anyone has a donor pair of head lights or tail lights for a reasonable price, I am willing to pay to play! Let me know.

Well aren't the 05's coming in with projector headlights? And as far as donor lights, check some of your local body shops/junkyards, maybe they have a used headlight thats in half decent shape you could get for cheap...

That would be interesting. With yours you could also go with a blue tint instead of the standard gray/black. Add that up with some of those blue bulbs and that could be a really kewl look.
