Interior/Exterior Mini armrest groupbuy - Alex

Thanks for the pictures, guys. Unfortunately, they convinced me that I don't want this armrest.
First reason is that it doesn't extend any further forward than the one I have now (Wood Company). I'm 5'7" and need my seat moved forward such that only the tip of my elbow would be supported by this armrest.
Second reason is that I really don't like the way the support brackets look in the back seat.
The MINI-FINI armrest extends further forward and doesn't have brackets like that (I don't mind losing the rear cup holder), so I'll probably get that one someday.

Yes I'm interested to see what this rumored problem is.
Mine seems fine except for the occasional spontaneous combustion...
bigpmj there is a pic of it opened here:

Hello All,
This is my first post on NAM. I just wanted to let you know that I just ordered the new 2005 MINI armrest part number 52 12 0 154 307 for $156.00. I ordered the armrest from Classic Auto Campus in Mentor, Ohio. The units were suppose to be released on 10-19 but BMW has pulled the release date. I spoke with Steve at Classic and he thought the picture on supply might improve next week.

There seems be an alternative, though - buy the armrest from Classic MINI in Mentor, OH. With the discount they offer NAM members, it sounds to me like we'd end up paying about the same price. Without having to wait for enough people to sign up for a group order, no foreign exchange rates and shipping, and no trying to decipher web sites in German!
It looks like I'm going to be picking Tillie up in Cleveland in about 5 weeks. (She's on the docks in Southampton right now.) I haven't told Julie, my MA, which accessories I want yet, but I definitely plan to ask her about the armrest.
...before I read everything in this thread. Where did jwardell get the message from Alex? I've signed up as interested in a few different MINI sites (including the German one) but I haven't heard from him. Alex - if you're reading this, please count me in!
Thanks!

does teh armrest give any? i'm a big guy who tend to put a lot of pressure on the armrest's in cars... I was goign to buy the outmotoring armrest but I thoguth that it might bounce or bend under my arm... this one look fairly sturdy, but coudl soemone post a picture with their arm puttign some light pressure on it?

Alex's email is info@rp-mini.de
chollomo it is the sturdiest of all mini armrests, thanks to the steel legs that bolt under the sear rails.

The armrest design is almost exactly the same as was in my VW Jetta and what's in my wife's VW New Beetle, so the design must be capable of meeting US safety standards.
I don't know about you guys, but I'm getting pretty tired of the seemingly arbitrary method that BMW/MINI uses to determine which options/parts/accessories they allow for sale in the US.
