Front Grill Cooper/CooperS

I am looking to replace the front grill on my Cooper with a black Cooper S front grill. Is this a perfect match, top and bottom?

They are NOT interchangable. They are different sizes.

I had the dealer install the chrome grill in my MCS when it became available as an option in October 2003.

Hope this helps...

additional clarification

Until the '05 models, the S upper grille had 1 less slat than the Cooper. However, they are still interchangeable. I believe the lower slats are identical.

Front Grill Cooper/CooperS

The question 'Fairmont' asked was: "Is this a perfect match, top and bottom?"

My answer was no. If you have to alter or modify, I don't believe it is 'a perfect match'.

I stand by my original post. (October was when mine was done, not when it became available.)

The following, (Motoringfile) as well as the dealership, is where I got my information:

The Cooper S Chrome Grille is Here!

It's been a long time in coming but now MCS owners can officially join the chrome grille club. In the past those that wanted the the chrome look had to alter (cut) the MC four-bar chrome grille to get it to fit into the MCS hood. However with this new grille it should be a fairly straightforward installation.

Here's the actual text from the service bulletin (supplied by an internal source):

"Aftersales is pleased to announce the release of a chrome grille for the MINI Cooper S. Available in the same three-bar pattern as the factory-equipped body coloured grille, the new chrome piece is an easy install and is sure to brighten up any Cooper S. It's attention grabbing styling lends a unique look."

Here are the part numbers:

Grille (upper) - 51 13 7 122 473 - $72.25
Grille (lower) - 51 11 7 032 900 - $24.25

Hope this helps...

I dont know what modification is necessary...i just took the nuts off....put the new grill in and replaced the nuts....i have a 2002 so maybe its different? I went from 4 slats (cooper) to 3 slats (cooper S)....no mods or cutting or anything....a perfect match

Too bad you couldn't just get a 4-slat grill from a MINI One, but that's probably forbidden in the States.

I thought about that actually, because i prefer the 4 slat....but found that the shipping would be more then just having my current grill just sprayed black  I came across a free MCS grill so i just threw it on
