Interior/Exterior Sun Visor and "oh crap" handle
#4
For the handle to support any weight, it has to be "screwed into" a welded support in the roof under the headliner. Just like the attachment points are there for the roof rack. I doubt that the 04's and earlier have these mounting points UNLESS the handles were an option or available in some foreign country. If anyone in a foreign country has a 2004 or earlier with a grab handle or sunvisor let us know.

I do know a guy who does fantastic PDR here in the area who drives an MCS. He probably knows what's under that headliner in the way of support structure (...he did some work on my '03 up there). And he'd know about the "oh crap" handles on the '05s, too. I could give him a call.

Just so you know the side-visor may be not as thrilling as you think. I find it reduces headroom by about 0.5"-1" where it matters the most - right above my head! I still have plenty of head room but I suspect I wouldn't bump my head over particularly hard bumps if it weren't there. I don't dislike it being there, but I also don't have a huge need for it - I wear sunglasses any time the sun is out at all and I'm going to be driving.

side visor extender
The visors in the MINI are almost too small to be anything more than a place to have those lighted mirrors. I was at AutoZone yesterday and found one of those visor extensions for about $3.50. This is the kind that clips to the existing visor and flips down to give additional protection from the sun. What I liked about it is that it also has a swivel AND a slide, so I can move it as the sun moves. I guess if worse comes to worse, I COULD clip it to my side window, and slide it as the sun moves, too.
