Racing Seats

I was thinking about putting in some racing seats and harnesses, like a sparco Milano. Will I get a ticket for this? I also don't know if anyone has figured out how to stop the airbag light from cutting on after I remove the stock front seats.
On a similar thought pattern: What about an aftermarket steering wheel? First, would I get a ticket? Second, how would I deal with the airbag problem?

You cant get a ticket for racing seats...and if you DOT approved harnesses, you will be fine. Check out mini2.com for the how to on the air bag wiring, they have lots of how-tos for different things over there.

I dont know about the steering wheel. That airbag is much more important then the side ones, and what would keep you from smacking your face? An aftermarket steering wheel isnt necessary unless your mini is a hardcore track car, and not a daily driver.

I'm still waiting on the hubs to be completed from momo...hopefully they will be available by the end of the month. The hubs will come with a resistor for the airbag, but will obviously disable the airbags and any multifunction steering wheel functions. Not recommended for daily driver.

As for seats....Randy has a good write up on installing them:

Thanks Brian. What about Sparco steering wheels? Are the needed parts for them already avaliable? I could wait to see what Momo comes out with, however, I generally prefer Sparco products.

Sparco does not have a hub for the MINI as of now. What a lot of people do is get momo car-specific hubs ('cause they make them for practically every car), then if the sparco wheel doesn't fit...just drill out holes and thread them, so it does.

Rumor is that certian 3-series sparco hubs work with the MINI. Best just to get a momo hub and either 1) get a momo steering wheel, or 2) drill holes so the sparco wheel will fit.

Intersting thanks again. However, wouldn't drilling into a Sparco steering wheel make it look a bit, for lack of a better term, crappy?

oh no...you drill into the steering wheel hub. You wouldn't see that.

See the holes on the top of the hub and the ring beside it? It may match up, but it may not.

ahh got ya. cool thanks. You even got a really useful picture and got it quickly, thanks. So, this wouldn't sacrifice the durability of the set up? Assuming I have someone who really knows what they are doing to do it that is.
