H7 replacement bulb suggestions

I am looking to replace my standard high beam bulbs to something that more closly matches my Xenons in color and performance. I was wondering what types you would recommend.

Sylvania Silver Stars

I replaced mine with Sylvania "silver star" -I run my daytime driving lights and since they run at something like 50% they had a very yellow apparence. Can't say as the Silver Stars helped much for the daytime driving light issue, but as high beams they do have a whiter read, much closer to the Xenon's in my opinion. Pep Boys - $20.

The best H7 bulbs are the Euro Spec Phillips and Osram bulbs. Most of the "blue" bulbs you buy in the Pep Boys, Kragens, etc, are bulbs that have a coating to filter out the yellow wavelengths of light. The resulting light is very bluish white looking, but the coating actually decreases light output and increases glare to oncoming drivers. I bought Phillips Vision Plus bulbs from www.autolamps-online.com. They're English but the prices including shipping are very competitive. Also check out www.powerbulbs.co.uk. Both websites have much informative information on automotive lighting.

We don't need no stinking xenons!

H7 for late-model headlamps and auxiliary lamps:
  • 55W Osram Silverstar Ultra High Efficacy Plus 50: $17.50/ea
  • 65W Osram Ultra High Output (2100 lumen, race and special-purpose use): $19.00/ea

I put the 65 W's in ....they are brighter, maybe, but very little....I put one on the right high beam and one on the right low beam just to compare with the stock bulbs...yeah, the 65W is brighter but not by much...the stock h7's I think are pretty good....but I kept the 65's anyway and left them in my high beams and am happy with them

I just installed the SilverStar 55w last week. The light is whiter, and less yellow than the standard lights. BUT... they are still no comparison to Xenon lights...

Anyone heard of these?

Heliolite H7 Single 2500K Ion Yellow Replacement / Upgrade Light Bulb 70W

70W!
That should be bright, is it safe to go from a standard 55W to a 70W / that is will it tax the electrical system?

I have been wanting to do the same thing.

I looked at the Silverstars at Auto Zone but didn't know what size to get.

What size are they? I just want to see, click, pay and install

That's what I thought but they didn't have anything close to that size there so I was wondering if I was looking at the wrong number or something. I think they just had a crap selection.

I guess I'll have to order them.

I could only find H7 bulbs locally at Autozone and Discount Auto Parts so not much of a selection. I struck out at Walmart, Target and Kmart and other automotive stores.

Keep in mind folks: There are 2 very different Silverstars out there - the cheap ones from Sylvania, and then there are the better, brighter ones from Osram Sylvania.

From what I can gather the difference has to do with whether or not they are DOT approved. The whiter-brighter ones are not, only for off-road/show use.

(like I really care...............!)

looking to replace all the front lights:

low beams
high beams
parking lights
turn signal lights (hopefully to the one that are white but light amber)
side markers

anyone know what sizes for last three and where I can get all of the above in one place (avoid shipping cost)

Sylvania's website (which goes up to '04) claims that on a Cooper S (without HID lights), an H7 is used for low-beams but an H9 for high-beams. But what I'm reading online seems to contradict this, and says that the H7 is used for both. I just (this evening) bought 2 H7's at Pep Boys for my '05 Cooper S, but didn't buy a second pair for the high-beams because the guide said they wouldn't fit. Is Sylvania's application guide wrong?

Yes they are. (That is of course if you don't have the xenons from MINI )

I run the sylvania Silverstars in my high and low beams and they make one heck of a difference. Yeah there probaly 55w but with that in mind I know I won't be pushing my car's electrical system with bulbs in the 70wat range.
So with the silverstars up front and the brake light mod I am better seen in a world of SUVs and pickup trucks. haha

In another thread I spoke of information and help I got from the Stern site. I replaced my H7 HIGH beams with the Osram 2100 lumen bulbs. I have an '05 MCS with Xexon LOW beams and now color and brightness are a much better match. Daniel will also help you with all the bulbs on your ride. I highly recommend him. BTW the OEM high beams are 55 watts at 1350 lumens. And if any of you are worried about DOT approved and "off-road usage"....why are you driving with your high beams on all the time F
