Man...I'd be more worried about the 1.3 tonnes of car 1 inch behind the tow hook if I was being hit by it!!

"sure thing sir, I'll take it off"..

I was thinking about unioning the base and hoop part together and possibly instally a turnbuckle between them. I need to spend some time in front of the drafting table. But alas, I have no gear with me here in hawaii.

When I get back to the mainland (FTM), I will start working on a design a bit

I reckon if I were a cop, I'd hate knowing everyone has one eye on you when you drive/walk around....that'd start to get really annoying.....no wonder they are so surly...

I think most track officials like to see the so if there is a issue they can get you off the track quickly and on with the rest of the day.

I want a towhook too! In Dutch we called: sleepoog
Hier in The Netherlands you don't see people drive with it.

I like the model of OMP but it's only in yellow and my MINI is PW/PW.
I want a red one, but I can't find. So think I 've to buy like the original one and paint this towhook.

I like the towhook of Kenchan's MINI but I can't find the make of it and find it at stores hier in the area where I live.

You can get a fancy red one (Kenchan's) from this Ebay vendor: AutoTecknic Motorsports (AutoTecknic Motorsports) It was on the top of page 3 today at that website. It says it's for BMWs but it fits the MINI just fine.

Is here also a person with a Cooper (non S) and install a towhook?
So I can see how it will look on my MINI

Well Finally got around to painting and placing it on mine this weekend, andI'm doing it to be practical as I do have a track day coming up in April.

I like the contrast between the orange and black.

What do you guys think?

Here's mine I just put on. Tell me what you think. I'm debating if it's too "Ricey." or not.

Note** The pictures are bad, sorry. It was getting late and I snapped a few quick ones off. The hook does look a little different in person.

*This is the stock tow hook, which I primed then spray painted "Hot Orange", then added a thich coat of clear protective enamel. Took ~30min for everything.

Very nice And before you take it the wrong way (my usual preface when speaking to my wife)...you might want to wrap some teflon tape around the thread so you can time it so it sit's level...or vertical...but pick one A level gauge is handy for that...I'm just being picky

+1 and I don't think of it as "ric0r" cause I've actually used the hook at the track (and it even towed a car that didn't put theirs in).

I've decided I'm going to leave the cap on, simply because if/when I take out the took I will still be able to plug it back up. I will see if I can tape it up tomorrow. Has anyone ever had their's stolen? I'm afraid mine's going to get stolen because it just screws off....

And as for the leveling, the options are either verticle (which I don't like), horizonal, but loose (which is why the pics are like that), or horizonal tight, but it sits at an angle (even more so than the pictures). Any suggestions?

I know some have used adhesive to prevent theft. I took my cap off (actually did come with any retainer on the front). And now I keep the cap in the tool kit, in the boot next to the batt. If I ever take the hook out when I go to put it away the cap is waiting for me.

What kind of "adhesive?" Like I said, I'm not sure if it's staying or going at this point, so I'm not putting loc-tite on it or anything (as of now). And did you just cut the string piece? Will the cap still stay in place when the string piece is removed? I'm guessing so because I used a pair of pliars to get them off.

If you red LocTite the sucker in, they could spend most of the evening trying to unscrew it without much luck.

Which could start a new collection for you -- punk heads.
Managed to find this.

Thanks, but like I said I ruled out loc-tite for now.

That was all I found when I went back and read this, guess its a balance between keep it or removability THe teflon tape may make things tight enough to dicourage theft though.

I kinda liked the collection bit as well.

I'm into red accents now. I used racing red caliper paint (later will for calipers) and then forced on a slightly small rubber faucet O-ring which made it possible to crank it down right to dead level. To take it off requires some effort, hopefully keeping it from getting stolen. Also yanked off the cap and added it to the collection of MINI nick-nacks.

Had to remove it once and repaint as it did have a scrape, like someone's FOOT was on it. May add small red text "Not A Step." Some people.
