Red Grille on D/S what do you think?

OK-

Twister was selling the Chili Red Grille upper and lower from his MINI. I bought them to use as guinea pig grilles for different finishes.

Well I got them today and thought I would throw the upper (not sure how to remove the lower yet) on the front to see what it would like. I like the look of red as an accent (on the inside) but thought I would see how it looks on the inside.

It looks good, I think but it kind of looks like my MINI is wearing lipstick... or has big lips

What does everyone think of how this looks? It is only on there temporarily. I have not fastened it yet so I can throw the original one right back on with ease.

Looks like it's been drinking Kool Aid!

Honestly, I think it looks weird.

If you went with a 2-color scheme all-over, it could work. For instance: grilles, scoop, stripes, roof, plastic trim all in an accent color. I doubt DS+red would be my choice, though. red/black, white/black, PS/black, LY/black maybe.

My 2 cents, sorry no refunds or exchanges.

I think it could work

Here are my ideas:

Add a thin red pinstripe on the outside of your stripes(You have black with a white pinstripe...keep the white one and make a red one right next to it just like that)

Red brake calipers(just paint them or get a big brake kit if that is in your future anyways)

Red mirrors

Red on the interior(dash or red racing seats or something)

Red hood scoop(this could easily be too front heavy)

red decals with club names(you know like "namotoring.com" written small in red on the bottom of the side windows....something like that)

just some thoughts...take them for the little that they are worth and do what you like best

Not really diggin' it.
It does bring out the MINI's face though... lipstick is right on.

Yeah...
The more I look at it the more it looks like a lot of bright red lipstick!

Its coming off.... at least I have a new test bed for some diferent finishes....

At least it was an easy try.....

I almost think just the lower grill (since it is one piece and my license plate covers some of it) could work but that is too much effort.

Thanks for the input. I knew it was too funky!

It is interesting though how MINI went to a smooth chrome piece for the 05 (which is what I have) from the moulding that is on the previous years.

all i can say is ACK! it might work if you do a total two-tone scheme, but it's a long shot

I do think it would work if the rest of your car was using the silver/red color scheme

Well, i think by itself, it doesnt exactly fit the car, not that thats wrong(GO DIFFERENT!) but I would definitely see this as an opportunity to jump into a color combo mix.

if tetris taught me nothing, its that Grey and Red go GREAT together(level 6) That would just be slammin'

i added red bonnets, looks better already!

I don't like it. It looks clownish. I think on a DS MCS, a jet black grille slats would look best...Either that or chrome. Anything else cheapens the look of the car.

Just my few pennies...

Looks like a ghetto car with parts from the junkyard they didn't bother to paint.

How about this..

Hey,

I would personally like a black or white grill with trim ring in contrast color, i.e. matching your bonnet stripes.

Or maybe you could alternate black and white vinyl squares, and get the checkered flag grill :-)

Either way, Chili Red is not working for me. Mebbe you could paint in some teeth in that maw there..good for Halloween.
