Removing headlight trim rings...?

Anyone done this? How?

I've searched the forums and haven't found anything... don't want to bust anything trying...

Any info appreciated. Thanks.

Hey Lotoole, I actually just removed my headlights from my 04' last night. Patience is a vertue. Pretty tricky to remove. I masked off the headlight because the removal of the chrome surround looked difficult and as well didn't want to break anything. after all the sanding and prepwork I sprayed two coats of flat black to the headlight surrounds (still drying) and it looks awsome. I chose the flat black to match with the aero grills. Let me know what color your interested in painting your trim in, or shoot me a PM. Hopefully I can give you some pointers. Good Luck.

as a pioneer in this field i would first like to state:

DO IT!

the clips are the only tricky part, they are a bit fragile but were designed to "pop" off. preping aint even that arduous a task.

What is involved in prepping, how difficult is it?

Lagston - I want to remove the trim rings because I'm looking to match the matte of the aero grilles as well. I was thinking painting, or perhaps wrapping them in vinyl, which might hold up better and is a little less permanent should I change my mind.

drdrumanbass - do the rings come off the car with the headlights in place, or does the whole unit need removal?

Lo- The whole headlight needs to be removed and then worked on from there, either popping off the chrome trim (ask drdrumnbass) or masking of the headlight which was my approach. Here are some pics: enjoy

Wow, looks perdy.

I didn't think I would like the flat black, but I LOVE it.
