2005 MCS Convertable with Brake Light Mod
Ok, I figured it out and completed the rear foglight / brakelight mod on my MCS Convertable tonight. I researched the wiring and I am able to install the jumper on the convertable by removing the passenger taillight.
Here is the result;
You have to admit it really lights up the backend. I like the wrap around look of the lights.

My kit will be available from a MINI vendor within the next two weeks. The kit will priced to make it cheaper to buy my kit then build the jumpers on your own.

I'm waiting on an 05' MCS with the Rear foglight. Does this make the rear fog light up when you hit the brakes also? Does it not do this already?
Thanx!

This mod jumpers the brake light to the rear fog light and turns this light into an additional brake light, when the fog light switch is in the off position. When the fog lights are on this mod has no effect, will not change the brightness of the light or anything.

Ok the kit was installed on a 2005 MCS, I did not have to remove the tail light and all work completed on the passenger side of car. The install took about 20 minutes again as I had to find the correct wires. My buddy was really happy with the result and there are now two 2005 MCS's with the brake light modification.

To enable the rear foglight as a brake light requires that you unwrap the wiring harness at the rear of the car along with upwrapping the tail light connector wiring harness. Once this is done you install a jumper between the tail light wiring and the rear fog light wiring. Then you re-wrap the wires with electrical tape. I have developed a spiling adapter that hooks up quickly and easily and is removable. My adapter has a diode soldered into the wire and is completly heat shrink wrapped for protection.

It is not about the money, the instructions are very detailed and the kit that I developed has everything needed to enable the light as a brake light or backup light. This modification can not be done without the jumper and if I posted directions people could possibily install something other than a jumper. I do not want this. If you want to do it on you own just upwrap the wires in the passenger rear compartment and remove the rear foglight in the bumper. You will see what wires that run to the rear foglight light in the passenger rear access panel wrapped by themselves. I am not selling this kit for a lot of money (Under $15.00 shipped), I just want to do what I have always said, provide a mod for MINI owners that is inexpensive and easy. If anyone has any questions about this you can email me minirolls@msn.com
I look at this as a time vs money situation, if you have the time then you can figure it out, if you have the money and do not want to waste the time then I have the solution.
