Another "will it rub?" thread

My Cooper S isn't in yet, but I bought a set of Tein S-Tech springs for it already because I love Tein products. These are just going to get me by until I can get a set of Tein coilovers in the future.

Anyway, I also have a set of 16x7" Rota Subzero wheels lined up to buy them. I want to get the widest tires I can get without rubbing. I am leaning towards a set of 225/50/16s. The 50 sidewall is the most common size when looking into 225 tires, so I would probably want to stick with that size. Can I fit the 225/50s along with the Tein springs without hitting fender? I have 215/40/18 tires along with a drop on my Sentra and it rubs a lot. I hate it because I go through tires way too fast. But I really want the 225s on the MINI! Any help?

i'm going to say yes you will rub...

Here's my logic:

We've got the stock 16's and we changed over to a 215/50/16 and we do not rub but a 225/50/16 would of rubbed. And we are NOT lowered.

So there is my little tidbit of info, make of it what you will

I am running a 225/45/17 on a wheel with 40mm offset. It rubs on the very outside edge of the rear tires if I have a moderate to heavy load (back seat passengers, extra set of wheels in the boot) and hit a moderate to large bump. However, it causes NO DAMAGE to the tire as it is only rubbing on the rear plastic fender liner. Now keep in mind, my car is not lowered - stock MCS Sport suspension. There is no issue with the fronts.

I say Go For It!

But if you are already rubbing a little without lowering it, wouldn't I end up rubbing a ton once I do drop it? What if I buy my tires rally-style and put 225s on the front and 215s on the back? I would wrather not have to do that because I would like to be able to rotate my tires, but I will do anything to get 225s on those fronts! lol You can never have too much grip.

Hey

I don't think you will rub but i don't think you should go with a 225 for a 7 inch wide wheel. I think that a 215 will be sufficient enough. I roll on 215/35/18 and i also had about 100 lbs of stereo equipment in the back and i have never rubbed.....well maybe on like a HUGE hole in the ground but on a everday driver with up and downs and potholes and just bad rodes....i haven't rubbed.

Oh yeah....im running eibach 40mm (inch and a half) drop all the way around on stock struts.

Thanks
Your friend Ben

If the offset on your wheels is enough to pull the wheels/tires inside the lip of the wheel opening (I'd say 1/4" would do it), I would guess it would not rub even if lowered. Keep in mind, I am NOT an expert and I did NOT stay at a Holiday Inn last night!
