**Semi Teaser** Look at my new Bonnet Stripes ;)
Well, actually no bonnet stripes here. Just some CF
I couldn't wait for an actual CF MC hood so I got the MCS hood. Fitment is pretty dead on..with some minor things here and there. And with it weighing 12 lbs...wow.
It's still at the shop...it needs some fine tweaking before its ready to go and its getting fitted with some mesh for the hood scoop.
Here is a pic... Enjoy

thanks for the compliments everyone.
the hood is made by ViS racing. they put that "hood pins are required" on the website so they can cover you know what...hehe. I personally will not get hood pins. the MINI has two latches where the hood secures, and I think thats more than enough.
as far as quality and fitment, the hood is pretty well made. just taking the stock hood off and putting the CF hood on, it almost fell totally into place. it was shifted a little to the left, so the little hump in the middle of the hood did not line up with the body of the car. but with a little tweaking, it lined up perfect. now, with any CF product...especially hoods, a perfect fit is near impossible. the only thing that I see is that the hood creates a greater gap where the hood meets the front apron..but this gap is only like 5mm bigger than a stock hood. ViS has a pretty good mold to which they make these hoods...truely great product. All it took was a little time and the fit is near perfect.
and yes Yellow_mini, the whole hood is CF. it take quite a bit of prep work to get it right. the hood comes pretty well UV protected and clearcoated.
the thing is that with a CF hood, a lot...and I mean a lot of clearcloat was used.

Looks good
NAM member Tuls has had a CF bonnet like that, with similar CF visible, installed for quite some time. Of course, he has an MCS. As I recall, there were some fitment issues with his. Those of you with questions might ask him, since he's lived with CF hood on his car for a while.

I was wondering how and where you got the paintjob done.
Did they use the same technique as any other paint job, or was there a special process involved? I've gone to a few paint shops and they were unfamiliar with painting CF. Thanks for any input from your experience you can offer!
Well done

they used pretty much used the same technique when painting any other component. they just sanded more since there was already a clearcoat on it. the thing with CF though is that it looks as if the surface is completely flat and flawless, but in reality there are tons of super tiny pinholes within the CF weave. so after painting it and putting the first clearcoat on, the pinholes were apparent throughout. my painter actually just poured the clear on there and let it set....he then wetsanded it and applied another coat of clear...he repeated the process untill there were no holes present. that is what took the most time when painting the hood.
as far as where i got the work done, it is the BMW/MINI body shop for the dealership that i got my MINI from here locally. they do excellent work.
