Bead-Blasted Whalen

My Whalen Shift **** arrived yesterday, and I am very pleased with it. I thought I would let people know that Whalen has a finish option that is not mentioned on his website: bead-blasted, which is a rather flat satin finish which matches the Mini's silver interior trim very closely. It looks like it is a stock ****. I am very glad I learned about this option, maybe someone else will like it too.

Looks nice... Doug does a great job. I have a polished one because it matches the chrome switches and door handles.

Here's the one I bead-blasted myself a few months ago.

So how does one go about getting this option? Do you have to contact them via email/phone to request it since it's not available on the website?

Mine's blasted too. Color falls right between my silver dash & space cloth upholstery. Beauty, eh?

I got the bead blasted finish for that exact reason.. to match the silver interior. My current MINI has anthracite, so it doesn't make much sense anymore, but I still love the finish.

Looks good. Congrats!

Jim, what did you do to color the engraving? How durable is it?

I used a black automotive touch-up paint pen. Then carefully wiped off the excess with a cloth with a touch of acetone. I've had it this way about 5 months, and I haven't had to touch it up yet.
For the first version, I used Tamiya Acrylic model paints. My car is EB, so I did the "wing" lines in blue.

Thanks for asking!!

RKW,

I notice that your Whalen seems to be mounted on a shorten stick. Is that correct? I did not get the Whalen only because it actually would make the shitft a little taller. If this can be done, share the secret and I am ready to do it.

bomboasy, that's not mine! My post was referring to jimz68's Whalen that was posted earlier. You should send a PM to Jim.

I was thinking of painting mine, but the wife said that I would mess it up.

Thanks for the picture and motivation to now paint mine.

Cheers.

Hi,
Nope, it's the stock length. I just have the boot pulled up and ty-wrapped so it doesn't slide down.
Thanks All!
Jim
