Colored Tach and Speedo

After reading some of the posts... some as old as 2003 I haven't found anyone that has marketed colored speedos, tach's, etc so I just made one with a couple nights in photoshop and taking apart the orginal...This is what I came up with...

I know they don't line up EXACTLY but common...that what you get for $2.19 and cutting them out of a piece of "transparency" with a dull knife...

Oh yea I got rid of the km/hr, and the X1000 RPM text ... I didn't like it and it cleaned it up well.

The standard one is behind it so I don't lose the lights and what they are suppose to show... I am going to continue to work this but.. I thought people might like to see... now I just wish I had matching chronopak rings..

Nice job!

Don't sell yourself short--you did a very nice job! I'm curious how the instruments came apart--do they unclip or did you have to cut into them somehow?

Is the factory one underneath that removable (so it could be taken out and scanned into a computer, for example) or is it permanently affixed?

I'd be curious to see them lit up at night--do you have a picture that way?

1) unclips and unscrews... except for needle
2) see first post for night pics
3) yes factory is underneath... so it is returnable to stock no glue or anything.. if I had my own digital camera I would post a how-to take it apart but I am using works and that camera can't leave for more than 10mins or so...
4) after re-reading your post I realized you asked if the factory one was permanet and no it isn't it has a "post-it" type glue on back so you can remove it and it sticks back on ... other than that there are a few clips that hold it down under the needle.

I like that

I do remember that a company in Japan is selling very expensive colored tach/speedo faces, but I can't find the link.

found it!

correct but I don't see a chronopak one...

Also if my eyes don't deceive my random crazy text... it says 20,000 yen... with is..
20,000.00 JPY = 178.261 USD
A bit much for a sheet of what looks like paper...

Nice work. I like the look. Even better that it's one-off.

A lot is more accurate, and that is without shipping. When you get them for sale, let us know... nice job . Please don't forget all of us with center speedos .

ok I have made a couple more revisions that git rid of the factory ones. However, I still have a problem with diffusion of the leds... once I work that out I wouldn't have a problem to sell some. Also if anyone in knoxville has one with a center speedo that is willing to take it apart... i would like to make one for it...

-Josh

I will get a pic of the one I have on now... in a couple days

A long while ago I got some nice silver gauge faceplates for my E46 coupe from NR and they matched up

http://www.nrauto.com/

They seem to offer a lot of various cars but no Mini, maybe you guys can talk them into it

Cheers,

Like you can guess, mine is in km/h. Is this an obstacle for me to buy your handwork?

Give me some time I can delete the MPH and move the KMH to the outside...but like I said before, I am working on a diffusal problem where some of the numbers are much brighter than others..

I had stainless steel gauge faces with custom LED's in my miata They hurt with the sun shining right on them, but OH MY GOD were they gorgeous. (and everything in my miata was stainless steel, and it was pretty well scattered all over, so no matter where the sun was, it hit me)

But your custom ones are HOT :P

Is that a model year change, or a different country spec? My 2005 USA-spec MCS only has 1 lamp for turn the turn signals.
