Interior/Exterior steering wheel emblem fix
#2
I am not sure what you mean by "scratches" in your steering wheel emblem. I had a similar problem but I wouldn't describe them as scratches. The problem I had was the entire round logo emblem area, that round plastic enclosure in the center of the wheel was actually starting to crack or splinter it looked similar to scratching at first but it really wasn't. I attributed it to my car being an early production model (June 2002) and so I took it to my dealer and complained.
The dealer installed a whole brand new center unit no questions asked and after about a year the unit looks as new as it ever did. If you think you may have a similar condition you should ask your dealer first you might get lucky like I did. In fact the dealer was so on top of it so quickly it made me think they probably had faced this same problem several times before.
On another note if they are scratches and not too deep there are plenty of acrylic scratch removers on the market that might be able to eliminate if not reduce the amount of scratching. You can find these remmedies at good hardware stores, automotive paint suppliers or automotive hardware outlets. "Novus" is the name of one company that I have used for years to remove scratches from automotive paint, good luck

Should be easy to polish out in the way MGear mentioned. The plastic is extremely soft, likely because the focus groups decided that jagged shards of hard plastic being hurled toward the driver at 200MPH after airbag activation would be a bad idea
And I've heard of the dealer fixing emblem problems under warranty--by replacing the entire steering wheel/airbag.

I've been told by a Service manager @ MINI more than once that BMW does not like to "fix" parts.
It's apparently more cost effective and easier for them to not fill thier shops with warranty labor work, but spend more on fullly assembled parts replacement, and turn around parts replacement work quicker.

Yeah, the one right in the middle... I have no idea how it happened, I can only picture my girlfriend getting out of the car, on the phone, with all kinds of crap in her hands, banging stuff all over, then closing the door leaving fingerprints all over. She loves the car, but she's just not a meticulous as I am!

I have a related question. I have an '05 MCS convertible. Someone tried to rip the emblem out of the steering wheel (that's the last time I leave the top down) and when I toke it to the dealer, they told my it was all part of the airbag system and they would to replace it as a unit. Has anyone gone to the dealer out of warranty with this problem?
