How do I affix a badge?

I purchased a nice little British flag badge that came with double sided tape… but no instructions. How do I prep the area I want to affix it to (external paint)?

A little rubbing alcohol should do nicely.

After wipedown with alcohol, also a good idea to heat the panel
and the adhesive alittle bit too.

With the 3M headlight protection, I used a water-alcohol mix to help to prevent the adhesion until it was aligned well. Can this be done with the badge? Since I can't squeegee the hard badge I am assuming the answer is no.....

My flag badge fell off a week or two ago and there is a lot of dirt stuck on my car.

On the other hand...you can hardly notice because my car is so dirty anyway.

No... i would not risk it.

What you can do is tape some masking tape around the area you
want the emblem to go and use the tape as your alignment to aim
your mark.

When I affixed a chrome John Cooper signature badge to my boot (opposite the standard Cooper badge), I put the piece in place very lightly at first so it just barely hung there. That way I could double & triple check alignment from every angle. Once I was absolutely sure I pressed it firmly into place and it's been fine ever since.

Nothing's worse than a badge that's just a tad bit off. (well, okay there are lot's of things worse, but you have to admit it's pretty bad.)
