(de)striping my mini...

I am planning on taking the stripes off just because they are annoying to maintain. 1 of them is fading and has a stain on them which looks like it faded the color to white. Anyway... I've had to car for 10k miles already. Will I notice a difference in paint?

Are yours aftermarket stripes? Anyone else de-stripe? Paint Fade? Just curious as I am about to stripe my car.

I have removed three different sets of stripes from my MINI. Each was on for about 4 months.

You will probably see some difference right after you take them off, but keep in mind that the area under the stripe doesn't have the same amount of wax as the rest of the hood. Clean up the residue, then go about your normal process for waxing the hood. Once you do that, your paint should all be uniform.

I ordered mine without stripes... I like the clean look...
3M makes an adheasive remover for autos. You can find it at pep boys. It won't hurt the finsh or clearcoat. Works great in getting off any goo left from the stripes...
good luck...

Took mine off 3 months ago with 29K on the car. A little polishing and you can't tell they were there. BTW, my car is black and spent most of its life in Florida

Removed my factory bonnet stripes after two years.
After removing the resin left behind - absolutely could not tell
where the stripes were. And this was not a paid endorsement
of Mother's wax and polishes!

My experience matches the others. I just peeled my stripes off with no tools but a fingernail (my own). There was a tiny bit of adhesive left at the top corners, but it came off easily with water and little clay bar rubbing. After my bonnet was waxed again, you wouldn't have know they were ever there.

Peel away!
