Replacement shifter bushing...any ideas?
Hi guys -
A few weeks ago a buddy and I installed the Alta SS kit. I love it. My grin gets bigger every time I drive it.
The only snag we ran into is in removing the bushing(?). I think that's what it is...it's the white plastic piece that holds the ball of the shifter in place. We cracked it as we were removing it. Too much force, too little smarts.
Luckily it was still in one piece. As a short term fix, we used some Gorilla Glue and held it in place with rubber bands until it dried. Not a perfect solution, but I figured that would hold it until I could get to the dealer.
Which brings me to my problem. My dealer doesn't sell just that piece. Their computer has it listed as part of the entire shifter assembly, which would cost me triple digits. I think he said it was $125 or something...way more than I'm willing to pay for a 2 dollar piece of plastic!
Any ideas where I can find a replacement? None of the vendors seem to stock something that small.
Thanks.

Isn't it wonderftul how you have to buy a large assembly, just to get one teeny replacement part?
I don't know if this will help, but I have one of those assemblies sitting here in my shop.
I needed a lever to check my shift ***** with; and of course, I had to buy the whole ball of wax.
Anyway, on the main plastic housing is the name United Parts, and the part number 80 24 300 100.
A Google search shows a French company by that name, maker of automotive gear shift levers.
Sending them an e-mail may do you some good. If they mold the bushings, maybe you can finagle one out of them.
Bon chance!

Anyway, German cars seem to do this more than others, i had to replace the gage face cover on my 2003 GTI and they didn't sell it seperatley and had to purchase the whole set up for $450
