At my last post, it was on backorder by MINIUSA and not yet released. It has been released and I just received one from Classic MINI. The complete grille assembly including chrome surround is $45.40 from Classic (MSRP $56.75). The black slat for the bumper grille is $13.52 (MSRP $16.90). This is quite a low cost for a dramatic change in appearance.

crud! I spent more than that on painting and got the grille for free!

Live and learn...I contacted Classic about the scoop and they said it came unpainted... I don't want to pay big $$ to paint one part again! Anybody have a black scoop they want to get rid of?

Funny you ask...I get asked that question all the time.... Must be the 2tone color.... the Anthicite gray with the high polished lip and center... kinda deceptive.... They are 17"

Maybe this is a better angle

i have similar colour combo in 7.5x17's mine are a 2-piece wheel though & the size is very deceptive.....
.......the other angle made it look real small so i thought to ask...

you could just paint it yourself, it isnt rocket science.

That's what you say, but I was sorely disappointed with the job I did painting the primered one I bought. Looked ok from a distance, but up close it looked like crap.

In all honesty is almost IS rocket science. The amount of work that goes into the prep is pretty tedious, and you will certainly see the effort of prep in the final product. Painting is 85% prepping, and 15% painting. You really need to sand it thoroughly between each and every coat, and you need to spray on many LIGHT coats in order to get a nice match.

Once you get used to this process, it's easy, but if if you are used to just pointing and spraying, painting can seem very difficult.

If anyone wants a detailed step by step of how i painted mine, let me know.

wow, i simply scufffed, layed down one coat of self etching primer, flashed it, and dropped two coats of bumper paint on my last grille.

it had about 2 chips on it after ~ 10k miles

what did you paint it with?

if it was primered from the factory, thats a different type of paint you will get out of a can at the hardware or auto parts store.

thet primer that comes on one from the factory would only work well if you were to spray it with a base/clear 2 stage paint.

even if you were to spray 4 or 5 coat of enamel on it, then buff, you would still probably have some lifting due to the tyep of primer used.

Well, I obviously didn't know what I was doing. I used gloss black spraypaint and clearcoat I got at Checkers.
I later bought a factory black scoop and sold the painted one. It was professionally painted white and added to a red car. Looks great now I'm told.

I'm going to order a set and install it on my 2006 Pepper White MCC, which arrives in October.
Please post pics when you get this done - I'd love to see a black grille on PW!

edit: nevermind - saw the pics on post #45 here. Post yours, too!

Here's a little photoshop experiment swapping red and black grills. Anybody in Colorado want to try it out for real?

The picture doesn't do the idea justice. I think it would look snappier in real life ... maybe with a red top?

Thought I would throw an image of my painted grill out, so those with Pepper White can see what theirs would look like before investing the time and $ to do it.

Can you take another picture from a little farther away? I'd like to see more of the entire car so I can get a feel for the grille in that context. Thanks!

Sure can. Give me a few days. Pressures at work are keeping me later then usual. Any views you would like to see? The one posted was shot immediately after the install on Sunday night, in the garage. Looks better out doors in sun light.

Well, since you're kind enough to be taking requests, I'd like a front 3/4 shot that shows the whole car. Nothing special, just want to get a feel for the black grille in the context of entire car. Thanks!

JS, it looks like in addition to the grill itself, you also blacked out the chrome surrounds for the grill and the headlights? I'd also be interested in a longer shot, in the daylight.

bee1000n, for just the black grill alone, did you see post #45 in the thread?
