There's a real shortage of carbon fiber so Peter's pricing is more than fare. As I previously mentioned in another thread, we were going to buy a series of carbon fiber chairs a couple months ago and were told that CF was low due to the new contracts Boeing and Airbus have currently in China. SO the inmediate supplies are mostly headed in that direction for a while.
+++here's the link to the CF discussion+++

I hope to see some (good) pics of the CF version posted before the end of the month so I can place an order before the price goes up. As I'm not familiar with how the the standard scoop is held in place will this new one be "plug and play", meaning no rework required to make it fit and will it work with both standard IC and the Alta or GSR which have different scoop hardware?

thanks!

Some news on the "Ram Intake"......

Had a meeting Friday at the Composite shop, checked the mold out and literally
saw the first and second unit come out of the molds. The next step is to polish
the mold for a close to mirror finish to the parts.

I will most likely have the first finished part on Tuesday readdy to ship.
As for CF, the orders are 6:1 in favour of CF.....I'm surprised. I will keep the current price untill Feb 1st

I have mentioned in this thread that modification to (better yet, elimination of) the factory plastic diverter will be required (the part that is attached to the hood which covers the top of the intercooler). Peter will be supplying instructions I'm sure. I developed this intake in conjuntion with my Alta IC which eliminated this part. Without modification, the extra aperture would be defeated by the restrictive factory opening. Sorry if I didn't make this clear. Perhaps JS could chime in...

When I placed my order with Peter last week he said the new scoop would take me "about 10 minutes" to install and that consequently it would not come with installation instructions. He's a knowledgable, cool guy, so I have no doubts this will be the case. Even if it isn't, there must be a mod to the OEM gasket piece (the OEM gasket is on the bonnet, the Alta gasket is on the IC cover) that will make the Ram Intake work with it, Im sure.

cheers,
phil

OK I'll chime in now. I needed to first discuss the situation with Peter. Because we designed the scoop to fit on Sid's car, Alta IC equipped, we changed the opening's rearward edge. In order to accommodate a stock air diverter we will have the fabricator trim the pieces to the original depth of the scock scoop. So those who do not wish to change their IC, will not need to replace the stock air diverter or IC. It will be a simple replacement of the new Ram Air scoop for the stock scoop. In applications with after market IC's, it will work as a stock scoop would work, with the added advantage of greater air flow.

So, it appears as if the Ram Intake will fit on a stock bonnet/diverter/IC setup, but what about any compromise on the performance as suggested by Sid? The real reason for getting this scoop is for increased air flow and greater cooling of the IC/air charge. The bling factor is surely secondary (we could have had CF JCW scoops a long time ago if that were the goal.)
Still, time will tell. It shouldn't be too long before the first ones are shipped and we'll start to see them on cars, and get feedback. Unfortunately, even here in the desert it's really cold, so the cooling tests will have to wait until warmer weather.

I am very happy to hear that the decision has went this direction. I think this provides the product greater versatility as it is not being tied to a specific aftermarket IC. Since most aftermarket IC products are design to work in conjunction with the stock scoop, the Ram Intake will now be able to work with any IC currently on the market (including stock) or any new ones available in the future.

Good call guys!

As was said throughout this thread; the Ram Air Scoop was designed to flow more air at any given speed and in any weather. It will work this way in any given application; stock or aftermarket IC. (for any IC that would use a stock scoop) Of course each condition that changes, be it ambient temperature or make of IC, driving speed, etc, there may be different amounts of cooling of the intake charge from one setup to another. In other words; results will vary from car to car, location to location. We couldn't test under all conditions, but if you reread MSFITOY's enteries, you will see the amount of change, from a stock scoop to the Ram Air Scoop in the conditions that he tested.
Hope this assures you that this will work as designed.

The temperature change were the same whether it was 72F or 15F ambient...14-15F between AIT and ambient for RIP, 24-26F for stock intake

Was it a fiberglass or carbon fiber part?

Fiberglass is made of made of very thin strips of glass, usually grown at glass farms. Carbon Fiber is a byproduct of human waste after we consume a lot of brand...............takes a lot of crap to make this stuff and it's only going to get more expensive because no one likes collecting this *****...Carbon Fiber parts are molded pieces made from this byproduct
