Wind Deflector Options / Reviews ?
What options exist other than the $425 factory Wind Deflector ?
Anyone with a review of any wind deflectors - factory or aftermarket ?
I'm gearing up for winter in Chicago and the heated seats are great, but I could probably get another 2 weeks top down with a good deflector.
Thanks in advance .

Think he's talkin' about the wind deflector for the convertible....
Yep, it's too expensive.
Yep, it is totally worthwhile.
If you shop around you might find one slightly cheaper, but the factory model is the only design available as far as I know.
There have been a bunch of threads on this here and at www.mini2.com. There are generally two camps among cabrio owners:
1) purists who feel that the wind deflector diminishes the open motoring experience
2) people who have tried the deflector, and love it, but think it's too expensive
I like having the option, and in combination with windows up/down, etc, it really provides a lot more flexibility in motoring experience than you might expect.
MINI could definitely ditch the overwhelming, confusing carry case, and probably knock ~$100US off the price.

Does it hinge in the middle?
I can't tell from the pictures I've seen, does anyone know if it hinges in the middle for storage?
I had an Oris windscreen on my Miata that's the same type (mesh screen on an aluminum frame) and it did what it was supposed to, but I found it was cumbersome to take along as it filled the miniscule trunk and the top was impossible to put up with it in place. I loved it and it looked good but it spent most of it's life hanging in the garage and I never seemed to have it when I really needed it. However, these type have a big advantage over the cheaper ones that velcro to the headrests as they usually offer more protection and you don't have to worry about seat positioning.
I thought about getting one for my pending convertible but decided to opt for the cold weather package instead and save $124 bucks.
