Your Thoughts on Glow in the Dark Bonnet Stripes

Visited my local sign shop today to have some custom checked stripes done and vio'la they had an extra partial left over roll of glow in the dark 3M just enough to do 1 or 2 sets of bonnet stripes. The idea was the glow in the dark as the bottom stripe and they could overlay with either black or dark silver. Only deal was the glow color is that off white almost green stuff kinda like this dude . It looked coool with the contrast but I was not sure what the finished product would look like during the day. I also thoght just glow without checkers and maybe pinstripe the edges.
I am thinking how cool at night

I was thinking of doing them on magnetic strips just in case I hated it. But what if it looked great then I would kick myself for wasting a cheap roll. I was told I could get a great price since it was just left overs.

I think I will pick it up anyhow ...no guts no glory, but will I have the guts to put them on

Glow Stripes would be cool for a local club if every one in the club had them dont you think?? Join the club get the stripes

That could be pretty cool, as long as the stuff is high quality and wouldn't bubble, crack, etc. What color is your car?

LOL I don't know...I guess I would have to see it in person - it might look like a really cool emergency vehicle or something!

I didn't even know they made graphics vinyl in glow in the dark! I say go for it. It's reversible if you get tired of it. And I think at night, it will be bright enough, but not too bright, to be very cool.

Is the glow vinyl OK for extended outdoor use? I've read some of the specialty vinyl, like reflective or metallic, doesn't last as long as the regular stuff.

always thinking....

I don't know about the whole bonnet stripe being "glow-in-the-dark" green/white. I guess it depends on the color or your MINI.

I think you were on to something to use the glowing strip as a pinstripe to accent your bonnet stripe. What color bonnet stripe were you going to go with in the first place?

I have a glow-in-the-dark Batman antenna ball I use for Mini Events. I've left it on a couple of times overnight, and never really get the glow effect.

Point is... You need really bright lights to 'charge' the glow... And really a really dark enviornment to enjoy it.

If someone were to have glow-in-the-dark bonnet stripes, would they even be noticed?

Are they glow in the dark or reflective?

Most of the glow in the dark stuff like that I have seen is an ugly washed out yellow or green, although I do know it comes in some other odd colors as well...

Agree - I don't think the entire stripe would look good in the glow in the dark material, but trim stripes or the checkerboard pattern might be cool, i.e. lay on the glow in the dark stripe then overlay it with a black or dark contrating checkerboard pattern so you have the contrast during the day and just the GITD checkerboard at night. . .

Of course, it also depends on the body color of the car and the, uh, chronological advancement of the owner. Me, personally, bein' a bit over the age of 39 (and holding), well, glowing stripes aren't really my style, but I can see how this might appeal to someone who isn't burdened with so many past birthdays. . .

uhhh I'm 38 soon to be 39 (one month 8 days ) as well, as for the MINI its Dark Metallic Grey Convert with a Black top. I figure the sun wound charge it up to a bright glow. I am leaning toward getting it to test er out. Also thinking of having them cut out pin stripes.

I have also been contemplating matching amber lighting under the mini to match the interior lighting maybe too much bling

Its a MINI and suppose to be fun

Thanks for the input if I have the courage to de virginate my MINI I will surly share photos.

What about "EL" strip bonnet stripes. mmmm sexy. (I'm looking at making some blue glow in the dark stripes. Stripes are a light blue that glows blue)

Likely the glow 'charge' will fade as the sun goes down, and the affect would never be noticeable.

Even if you charge the glowtape with a mag-light, it will only glow brightly for about a minute, and then will remain dimly lit for up to 10... With the glow materials I've experienced.

Not trying to bust your *****, just highly suggesting some good tests prior to application.

The Lighttape should do the trick, as it is plugged in and won't lose it's brightness
