Installing M7 Front Splitter -need advice

Hi,

I am installing the front splitter but need some guidance:

1. The holes for the stainless supports are NOT drilled, any advice on where to drill them ? What size drill-bit ?

2. The outermost, lateral portions of the splitter attach very close to the 2 screws that anchor the lower front arches, should I leave them in place or remove one?

Thanks,

Phil

Here's where I put mine.

Attached to the bottom of the license plate frame. Been there for over a year. No problems.

Try contacting SFjames2, his looks great, and is very strong by having put some fiberglass support behind the bumper.

Right-about-there...

Use SS washers on both sides of the bumper skin and it will be just fine:smile:

Here's mine

I just measured out and up from centerline, and marked with masking tape. Then drilled carefully. I concur with MSFITOY's comments about washers...

Oh, and USE THREADLOCK!

I took the screws out and ran a bolt all the way thru, topped with a locknut. I made mine as tight as I could by buying extra SS nuts and bolts, used 6 all the way across.
Lagston verified a sturdy M7 splitter fit at CA Hwy. 5 speeds.

PS...

I've had no issues with mine, and run it on the track at 110 mph, with no problems.

Does the splitter not have holes in it?

Looks like MSFITOY and JCW Driver have the holes on difference places.

Not to hijack this thread, but with the push (understeer, tight, etc. - pick your term) in these cars, do you really want/benefit from more downforce upfront?

At high speeds, without hitting the brakes to shift the weight to the front of the car, yes, it will help lessen the understeer

At full throttle and speeds, the front can get pretty light

I may try it without the bling support bars,

by reinforcing it, adding a couple more bolts to the center areas, off midline and slightly more forward than the other 6

red rage, be careful using it w/o the supports. The splitters used without those braces are waaay stiffer and 1/2 inch thick ours is soft and nowhere near as thick as it would need to be. Might have it fold underneath or look lame getting pushed down while your motoring.

OK, I will test it first, then install it if need be ....

Still not sure what is the best mounting point, I will improvise

BTW, I did remove the back screw on the bottom of the front wheel arch and went thru the same hole with the bolt for the far lateral mount, connected to the other plastic pieces too

Push is not good...front down force reduces push = good
