Xenon headlights and fogs

I installed a set of BMW projectors into my front grill in the factory location. After a lot of custom work it's all done.

Yes, they are aimed properly like the factory's. No, I do not run both sets of Xenons at the same time. Yes, I will have Xenon driving lights installed next

I am surprised no one has replied to this. HID retrofitting is very difficult and GORGEOUS on the road. I would think more would want to do this mod. I think you did some great work. More pics would definitely be nice. Did you use the same projectors that are in the headlamps and put them in the fog location? Why won't you run both HID's at the same time? What HID driving lights are you going to get?

Again, would love to see more pics, especially if you have pics during the process.

Great work!

Thanks your first post and such great words !!

I did try tonight running both sets and nobody flashed me so I have them aimed low enough not to bother anyone's eyes. They are BMW projectors from a set of Xenon headlights from a 5 series. So they are low beams just very low to the ground.

I did not take any step by step pictures as it took me a month to get it just right..

I plan on running Hella HID driving lights someday..

I would love to be able to put xenons in the fog light location. How did you wire up the lights? Do you have any pics of the process and the parts that you had to fab?

Temperature?

What temperature (K) are the BMW HID's? What are the Minis? 5000K? 6000K? I always wanted HID's, figured I'd do it after I bought the car, but then I realized not alot of people had successfully done it. Any more information would be great. Thanks.

I am really REALLY curious to see how you mounted the projectors in that location. You must have something protecting the projector, because if you get dirt and grime up there you're going to be in trouble. 5 series projectors I BELIEVE are Bosch, but not positive. Either way, they have fantastic output and a great blue cutoff.

The temperature on ALL OEM HID projectors are 4300K (I think all OEM projectors), and to be honest with you, 4300K is the WHITEST light you are going to get. In other words, OEM IS BEST!!!!!! 5000K, 6000K are just bulbs and get bluer and bluer to a purplish tint. You're actually making light output worse by doing that (and many would agree).

Is there anyway we can see more up close pics on where you placed the ballast and how you protected the projector?

Again, amazing work. Once you get the Hella's in the headlamps you're going to have an amazing setup....especially if you get Hella Bi-xenon (7 series and others). Good luck, and keep us posted.

HID IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those of you S owners with the Xenon lights, what aftermarket high beam headlight bulb do you prefer the most? I want a nice clean look that matches the Xenons... Tomorrow, I am probably going to order some LED parking lights and some fog lights along with the full set of blue interior LEDs from http://autolumination.com. Any pictures of installed aftermarket front lighting? BTW I love the look of the xenon fog lights, but the time and $$$ that those require is out of the question for me.

The bulbs I used are a little higher color tempature than the factory, I think 5500K..

I do have some 8000K bulbs that I could install in the headlights but when I tried them I thought they were way too blue..

Beam pattern looks just like the factory with the _________/---------

I know i'm bringing up an old thread but I just got done installing HIDs on my friends CLK, low beams and fogs and they are sick. I may have a set of '05 projector headlamps available from a friends junk yard, if so I want to put my HIDs in the factory fog light location. I was wondering how you mounted the projector and if you spliced into the factory fog light socket. If you could take up close pics of the projector and how you wired the fogs I would appreciate it. Also, how much did you get the 5 series projectors for? And where? (If you don't mind me asking)

I used a fog light harness that allows remote operation, I did not tap into the factory wires except for power and ground.. I have a small key pad that turns them on and off..

I got the projectors from a body shop that was going to throw them away, so they were pretty cheap. I mounted them by using screws into the plastic that holds the normal fog lights.. Had to do some cutting.. If I took of my bumper you could see how ugly this mod really is !! Also, used zip ties to aim them some

The real issue you are going to run into is the depth or the lack of depth.. There is not much room for fog lights in there !!

Tell us about the keypad. What is it and where did you mount it?

It's just a wireless fog light switch. You can check out suvlights.com I think he sells a harness that would allow for wireless operation..

Just on and off, save a lot of hassel of running the wires thru the car..

Just a silly question about HID vs. halogen beam colors: do you believe that anyone will ever notice whether your hi-beams and lo-beams are the same color temp?

I have factory HID and 1500 lumen halogens in the high beams, and I assure you that you can't tell any difference in the color when driving, so...

If one assumes that you aren't trying to blind someone, anyone looking at your car will be doing so when the hi-beams are off, and no-one will ever know...

Hi passat,

My mini has the OEM fog light and i want to get the following the FlowLighting True HID Headlight Kit at http://www.oznium.com/hid

I notice you mentioned " The real issue you are going to run into is the depth or the lack of depth.. There is not much room for fog lights in there !!"

so do you think this is possible?

Thanks

your beam pattern will not be very good. You will have a bulb that is too bright for the halogen optics
