Welp, in the spirit of sharing personal preferences, it looks to me like you've done a pretty solid job of cheapening the interior with your rip-off autozone shift ****.

Buying that **** is as insane (to me) as paying 150$ for a shift **** is (to you).

Those were my thoughts exactly...........Why be unkind to strangers on the internet? Is everyone having a bad day? Do we need a group hug or what?

Can someone, in plain English, tell me why this Whalen shift **** is worth that much money?

Ideally this is what we are trying to get at, I think. from what I can tell I have gathered the following information about it.
  • because of it's weight it reduces the "notchy" feeling to the shifter.
  • custom logos ~> VERY COOL
  • 1" shorter than stock??
The only negatives I see from it are, its going to be cold as heck in the morning.

actually the later would effect you just as much, because metal is also a conductor for heat. Thus 100-degrees in car = 100+ on metal shifter. OUCHY

It is instantly removeable and can be taken inside if you live where the temperature makes grasping the **** uncomfortable.

To answer the previous question about how it works "in plain english":

It just makes shifting feel better. I'd suggest going to a meet and asking someone with one to let you sit in their MINI and play with the shifter. You'll feel the difference even if you don't actually drive anywhere. . .

I have to clarify the "shorter than stock", though.

At first, I only made these ***** to fit BMW's; and mine is indeed 1 1/8" shorter than a stock BMW ****.

Unfortunately, it doesn't apply to MINI's, and there is a disclaimer on my website, to that effect.

On a MINI, my **** is about 1/2" TALLER than stock, and there is nothing that I can do to shortern it.

Sorry for the confusuion.

I had a Miata with a $90.00 MOMO ****. It felt good put the set screws were terrible. The **** kept get loose. The finish got dull in a few months too(it was a polished ****). It also scuffed easy. I sold in on ebay and only got less than $25.00 for it. I bought a $40.00 **** as a replacement from Rspeed that was way better(finish and fell).

This time around I got a whalen. I got it made with the treads to match way Alta shifter and it is great. The weight is just right and the size is perfect. The Whalen did more to improve the shifting than the short throw Alta did.
Doug Whalen can put anything on them and there is muliple finishes. My **** looks as good 1 1/2 later as it did the day I got it(which was about 5 days after I ordered it). The MOMO looked like hell 2 months after I got it and needed to be polished weekly like your grandma's silver.

Have you ever watched how fast Whalens sell in the maketplace and how well they hold there value. I would say 90% of them for sale are being replaced by a new Whalen because of a shifter change or because the person wants a new design or finish.

Forget MONO and stick with the best.

The Whalen won't come off when shifting (even though it has a quick release mechanism), but one that you have to install with set screws just might!

True enough, but if left in the sun, it gets pretty damn hot in the summer, too!

I've made a couple ***** for Miata owners, too.

I had several of the ***** powdercoated once, but I wasn't thrilled with the results.

I won't be having it done again; but you're more than welcome to have your own powdercoated, if they can do it with the attachment mechansim already installed.

go with thw MOMO race, you can get it color matched to your paint.

i believe it comes in something like 7 colors!

and, if you ever decide to add a nice MOMO wheel, there is a nice wheel (i think it call the champion) thats a matching pattern for the Race *****.

well since we are having this debate.... I think the walen has too many disadvantages in comparison to mine. Mine is taller (which is closer to the steering wheel), mine is lighter (for those that put CF on things), mine disappates heat quicker (great in summer), mine warms up quickly (great in winter) and mine is CUSTOM. Oh the price you want to know... 1 lunch about $10 and the guy made it for me to exactly what I want. Oh yea it made from solid AL with no setscrew, its been reemed out to a perfect tight fit but can be pulled off yet much harder to remove that stock. So momo, walen or other people poo on you; I like mine, mine was cheaper; and its 1 of a kind in shape and NONE of you can beat my price unless it was a gift.

-Josh
