Fog Light to Brake Duct

I was wondering how many people have taken out their fog lights and put in some type of ducting to help cool the brakes. If so please post pics, I am going to attempt to do this sometime this week. I'll put up some pics in the process. Please post your thoughts on this.

Here are a few pics from the MINI United Spec cars. How can we get some more pic's of the way the duct work is run. For that matter how can we get more pic's of HOW the MINI United Spec cars are prepaired to race!

ducting

I have been pondering how to do this mod correctly. I skipped the front fog light option thinking I could add cooling through there.. I think this is probably one of the most important mods needed for the MINI that is tracked, to avoid the expense and hassle of a BBK that may require large wheels, spacers, swopping brake systems for winter etc.. etc.... but even with available discussion on this, haven't been able to find a way (or kit for that matter) that would take cooling from front fog log area to center of rotors for appropriate full internal cooling.. not just putting air at one side of rotor .... How do other front wheel cars manage brake cooling?

Here are a few pics of the front brake ducts I made for the USTCC #58. After burning up a set of brakes at the San Jose Grand Prix I decided the MINI needed front ducts. If you look at the calipers in the pic's, the high temp red paint is burned. The Grand Prix was tough on brakes for all the cars.

I took the fog light housing apart and mounted a 2 inch flang to it with 2in flex hose. This I routed through the frame and mounted to my own custom (prototype) brake duct backing plate. The air is directed to the center of the rotor.

At our last race at Infineon I suffered no brake fade. I have not taken before and after temps, But I can now say, that under heavy braking to bed in the brakes I see little or no fade.

This is the flang mounted in the fog lamp housing.

Close up of flange and company I bought it from.

Path of routing from fog lamp housing to rotor, kink was worked out.

Full routing on right front

Custom brake duct cover with cut out for duct air to center of rotor. (prototype, but it works).

The wheel well plastic fits back in with out any problems. Also we have not had any rubbing problems even though we are running 235/40/17 Hankook tires.

Costs $75.00

You can go to our web site www.USTCC.com Click on rules and forms. You'll find the rule book and car listings.

USTCC has an East Coast series. No Mini's yet.
