In the living room? Wow - your wife must have a better sense of humor than mine.

That looks GOOD, and would look exceptionally good on my Jet Black MCSC!

Thanks Jnj......

I've got a PS/B and have been going for the whole silver/black look... and actually have the silver dash....

Going to paint the down tubes, top of the dash, and rear side panels....maybe glovebox and parcel shelf too.

Thanks Omar. It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be....Just a bit time consuming........

Thanks Rev limiter....... My fiancee wears a mask but she's been really cool about it (amazingly!).

I also painted the door panel material black...and it makes it look a ton better than stock...I'll take some daytime pics when I install 'em....

Just finished one tonight, got one more to finish soon!

To be honest, I had my doubts when I read the title of the thread - but - they look really sharp! Well done!

Man, that looks awesome! I think that would look sweet in my PW, along with a anthracite headliner

What did you use to paint it? What steps did you take to prep the panel?

I got the paint from www.paintscratch.com (color matched to the roof).

I got the panels off of eBay for cheap and actually the whole story is that they were originally silver (which is what I wanted them to be) but when they arrived they were all scratched up and chaffed.....

So i worked out a deal with the seller so that I got them for REAL cheap ($65 shipped) and then sanded the paint down with 600 and 800, washed the whole door panel real well, and just laid down a couple of coats of base coat with some 1000 grit sanding in between.......

Then after my final coat of base I laid down the first layer of clear, sanded out imperfections (read dust particles and cat hair ) with 1000 grit again.....Did a few coats......and then finally rubbed down with some medium rubbing compound (elbow grease galore).......and finished off with some GriotsGarage SpeedShine (my favorite exterior polish).

I've gotten some practice as I've done my boot handle and hood scoop as well! Speaking of which, my hood scoop got chipped the first day I put it on so I plan on re-doing that as well........

wow, that actually looks luxurious.

btw, how did you paint it? did you use standard gloss metallic black and just polished it, or did you do a metallic basecoat and clear over it? polished it afterwards?

I used whatever the roof color is supposed to be, which I think is just a plain old straight black....I don't think it's metallic. And yes, I did clearcoat it and rubbed it with rubbing compound by hand afterwards.

how hard is it to remove and re-install the door panels?

How much do they weigh ?

Not hard. 4 torx screws you need to pull out......

and then you use a flat head screw driver with a piece of cloth (so as not to scratch anything) and pop off the panel slowly from the bottom.....

And then it's sort of a tilt and lift from the bottom and it comes out.

Be sure to take off your tweeter covers with a tiny flat head before this.....

Nice job. Did you remove all the separate trim pieces to paint, or did you simply mask off and paint in place?

Painted in place. The center oval piece is like melted to the rest of the door...so you'd have to break it and hot glue it back together.....

It's not hard to mask as the tape does not stick firmly to the black backing (which is a good thing)......

Pretty darned snappy!

Question. I'm thinking of painting all of the patina parts Chili Red and leaving the silver parts as is. Can the cross piece arm rest portion be removed to leave it painted silver?

heres a pic of my interior (its a work in progress as you can see).Last week I painted the door insert bars satin black as well as my shift ring, ashtray, and cup holders. And I paintd my center console tubes blue to match my roll cage and seats. I also dyed my headliner black.
