what is the primary difference of the aero kit trim (other than the black plastic grille)? is it wider and lower?

 

A little lower in the front and different styling as well; it's a more pronounced and sharper leading edge. The sides are lower and come down as low as the jacking points, about an inch as I remember. Not sure about the rear.

 

you can get a lot of the effect by adding the aero grill to an otherwise stock MINI. Sure, it's not the same, but a lot of folks like it! (myself included)
