Aero kit - factory paint question

What colors are available from the factory for pre-painted aero kit parts for an MCS?

As of 05

It was Chilli Red and Yellow. Don't know if that's changed for 06

i remember my MA telling me that it is much cheaper to just get the blank ones and get it painted locally.

i'd let it dry for a few months and then apply clearbra.

I'd actually prefer to get something finished from the factory from a durability perspective. However, if your paintshop has an oven to bake the finish this may be comparable..?

Price was the same...

The price for factory painted was the same as primer only. Hence a good deal... Wish I had been smart enough to mount it myself and save beaucoup $. And think to ask for the original bumper covers back. Coulda given or sold them. In excitement of new car it didn't occur to me.

I don't have the numbers, but when Sterling was a Roadfly sponser they had posted some prices for the pre-painted kit and it was less then buying the kit (even discounted) and having it painted for me.

Could this really be true??? I'm looking for the Aero Kit at the best possible price and if it comes pre-painted that's even better!

I'll be installing myself, with the help of a fellow enthusiast, so I just need the cheapest dealership. Would that be Sterling? Or maybe Classic?

UPDATE: I called Classic MINI this afternoon and the unpainted '05 "S" Aero Kit is $1250 (+S/H). They can order it from the factory in LY (I didn't ask about other colors) but it would be a longer wait and cost ~$2070 +S/H.

Buying one painted from the factory is the best way to go.

Factory paint is ALWAYS better than from a shop. I dont care how good of a paint shop it is.

^^^ hummm... not sure on that one. if you see 2percooper's MC's aero kit
and his painted CF hood, the paint job is much better than the orange
peel factory. if you're referring to durability, i recommend getting the
clearbra anyway. he uses no bra, but there was absolutely no chips
on his car.

I'd have to disagree.

Rear bumper was bought from a friend, side skirts from Dealer, front lower bumper (not entire bumper, just bottom piece) + all wheel arches from Classic MINI. Everything came unpainted, and not sanded (wheel arches and lower front bumper).

I took all the pieces to B&R in Pompano - a good friend recommended them - and was skeptical, but after talking to them, I decided to go for it if the price was right. They gave me a discount, so I decided to go for it.

The result - you can see it. The paint matches perfectly, and the only "tell" you have that the front bumper was not completely changed is because the lower piece has no rock-chips, while the upper part is full of them. (Can only tell up-close, though).

Closer Shot: this one explains what I meant above...

And all in all, for all the pieces + sanding + paint, I paid less than the Aero Kit would've cost me by itself from Dealer. (Installation I did myself with help from the girlfriend)

So I guess my point is that if a shop is qualified enough and trustworthy enough, their results can be quite amazing, and even compete as a factory-match.

Just my .02.
Leo.

Nothing will ever match a factory paint job, thats all there is to it.

I work with restored muscle cars all day long, and no paint job I have ever seen come out of our shop has ever looked nearly as good as a factory job.

Granted, the paint still looks awesome, I never said it wouldnt still be a great paint job, but the factory will always be able to do a better job than a paint shop, unless your willing to spend $15k+ for a paint job.

well, a professional like yourself knows what to look for in paint... us novices...we just look at the car and if it looks good we get our jollies.

hahaha

Well, lets put it this way. Ive seen a $20,000 paint job. What the factory offers is damn near that, as far as lack of dust, orange peel and runs go.

The quality paint offered at the factory would cost ALOT more to recreate at a paint shop than MINI is charging you.

what-so-ever-cooper, here you go again. I agree and disagree. More expensive you go better the paint job is kinda BS, the key is to leave the body shop alone, let them take their time, so you can minimize the faults. $20,000.00 paint job, seen it too many times on restored muscle cars and older Ferraris, it is the hours of labor that makes the difference. You can go to those antique restoration places and get ripped off, or go to a low end place, get the job done cheaper, with a cheaper result. All you have to do is to find a reputable place and drop the parts and leave them alone, tell them to take their time, and acknowledge them how **** you are, and after 2 weeks, go check out the results. Mine took $600.00 for paint and installation and no orange peels at all, spotless, it is perfect color match, and it is on a hyper blue.

Like i said, you do not have to spend a fortune on this, unless you have a lot of money

fyi - you'll be amazed how much better the factory paint looks on a Mini with a good color sanding (any semblance of orange peel disappears).
