Tach trim

Ok, I've been doing a little painting of trim pieces (photos when I'm done). I really want to paint the tach trim ring. Could someone please tell me how to get that trim ring off? I have tried prying, and it seems to be on there rather tight. Don't want to break anything.
Oh, yeah, this is an 06 MC.

Has anyone tried these?

I am thinking about it, but I don't know how well they look from the passenger side angle. Do you basically stack them on top of the god damn chesse silver gauge?
