I have always used MOMO's, usually the Short Anatomic model, though I REALLY think the Race Air Alu/Leather model matches the MINI's interior better then any other **** I have seen. It would also be totally HOT-looking with the new perforated black leather boots from RedLineGoods.
I am not really sure about getting an all-metal model like a Whalen, because of the Too Hot, Too Cold issue, and because slippery metal requires a more deliberate grip then leather, especially when you have sweaty palms at the local Autocross!!
However, I have heard people say that MOMO's raise the overall height of the shifter.
-Does your MOMO Race Air **** RAISE the shift **** higher then stock?
-Does it mount solidly to the stock shift rod?
-What kinda RedLineGoods boots did you get and how do they match the ****? --PICCY PLEASE--
THANX.

when i had it on the stock shifter, it did slightly raise it a bit, but it solidly mounts as long as you properly torque down the set screws and use the proper boot under the shift **** before setting the set screws.... toeliminate the issue of the raising shift ****, some people just took a file and filed it down.... not something i'd do to a car i think i might sell sooner or later.... but it is an option
since i swapped to the pilo short shifter, and it just slips on like a glove
as for the redlinegoods boots, i have a black/silver thread boot and ebrake boot... this is not a very clear picture, but will give you some idea

I wasn't trying to insult you and I am glad all is well with it. I guess the one image was shot from a different angle and to me it made it look like it had rotated.

My quick look suggests Arctostaphylos for sure, but sub-species, or whatever, I don't know! It's from the burl, used by woodcarvers but limited to smaller pieces because the burls are rel. small and expensive and full of rocks, dirt and general stuff that is not friendly to wood working tools! I have made lots of things from Manzanita burl, and it just seemed fitting to inlay a piece into my shifter.
