On Board Computer

I have a early produced 2003 Cooper S with Navigation and want to know if I can somehow get the display for outside temperature, MPG, AVG speed, etc to show up on the tach display panel. I understand without the Navigation this is the locaton this information is displayed but when you have the Navigation you have to go into the navigation screens to see this data.

Also, does the newer MKIV Navigation unit plug right into the same wiring harness that my MKIII unit uses?

Finally, does anyone know where I can purchased a good used MKIV unit for my mini?

Thanks to all.. Frank

No, you don't need to use the Nav screen to see the data. What is displayed on the LED of your tach? I don't know if it was different for 2003, but current models have a button on the turn signal stalk for cycling through the displays.

Thanks RKW for your reply. I agree with you but my car does not have this button as such my Tach does not display this data. The dealership informed me that since I have Navigation I need to go through the nav screens to see this information. I still believe that if I can get the stalk with the button that I should be able to display the same data on the tach too. Do you know if the new Mini's have this capability even having the Navigation too?

Thanks for your feedback.... Frank

Yes, new MINIs do have the capability. On-board computer can be viewed on both the tach and Nav screen. This has been true at least since 2004 models (don't know about earlier). Does your tach display only temperature?

I don't see why anyone would be selling a used MkIV (there is no MkV to upgrade to). Your only chance to purchase a used MkIV is probably through a salvage junkyard.

RKW:

My tach doesn't display any of the functions, including the temp, that now are displayed through the Navigation. I spoke to the Mini parts department yesterday and they informed me the 2003 wiring is slightly different then the newer models which is why you just can't purchase the newer turn signal stalk with the button for displaying the various functions via the tach. However she did indicated it can probably be retrofitted but suggested not doing it until the factory warranty is finished to prevent possible voiding any remaining warranty.

Have you heard of anyone doing this before?

Thanks again for your help.

Voiding any remaining warranty? WAH? Isn't the point of having the dealer anything is to retain the warranty?!
