Pillar mount for new mini LHD

I am looking for feedback on the pillar mount from mini speed. Has anyone tried this? The link is for a pic of the Right Hand drive but they have a left hand drive option. I have found a few threads here pointing to it but I have not found anyone who has purchased one. I also found a thread that shows all thats in the pillar is the fill tap for the overhead airbag. I really hate mounting all the gauges above the stearing wheel. I have a nav system and it makes it less visiable to place the gauges above the stearing wheel. I also found a thread here thats shows off a four gauge pillar replacment that I would really perfer but I am unable to locate a vendor that sells it.

I have never seen pillar mount boost guages specifically made for a LHD MCS, but last May at MOTD I walked past a liquid yellow MCS with pillar mount guages...Is that anyone on here?

To be honest this guage pod has been discussed so many times on this forum. However noone has taken the plunge and gotten one. I think that the only way to know is for someone to be the first and greatest and take the plunge and purchase one, you could always return it. If I had the money right now I would totally help you guys out and plunge right in and buy one. But I think it is going to be another lonley soul like myself to do it first for everone else to follow.

They DO make a left-hand drive unit:

Look for the thing in there that mentions the part # for LHD cars. These brackets are REALLY cheap (only about $35 USD) so I'm sorely tempted to buy them, but I don't know how long it would be until I'd be able to buy and instll the actual gauges themselves (the REAL cost) so I've been holding off. Plus, I wonder of these mar or alter the pillar when installed - do you have to drill? I assume yes, which makes them a dicey prospect for those of us that lease our cars...

For the price, though, you really can't go wrong.

I'm so glad you are trying out LHD model. I plan to experiment with a universal 3 gauge a-pillar pod and see how that goes; if it doesn't look as planned, I will probably go your route instead.

What gauges do you plan to use with that pod? I assume it will be pretty tricky to fit the tubing for a mechanical boost gauge behind there without any creasing; hopefully you have the time to experiment a little bit and come up with a creative way to run all the wiring.

Brass 90 degree barbed adapter & silicone vacuum tubing-- no need to worry about kinking the silicone hose

the reason its labeled there is because they couldnt print it on the headliner.

trust me, the airbag is not in the pillar, its in the headliner.

if the airbag was in the pillar you would end up with a piece of plastic in your face, that is not much better. Its in the seats and headliner. The thingy that makes the airbag go off is in the pillar though.

no need to get abusive from my comment. i was just concerned from a safety stand point is all. we are all here to give out info. there isn't any reason to thrash someone if they don't know the answer to someting, besides i'm new to the forum and still learning about my mini.

Don't feel bad bro I'm in the same boat. Even though I'm getting this mod, I did not know the air bag was in the headliner I though the pillar was designed to give in a certain way as not to bust you in the face. And I was willing to take the chance with the mount. As for the gauges I was thinking temp types (oil, exhaust, or the like) not sure yet lets get it and see if its nice enough to go in first.

I'm going for some Megan's at some point. They look like the Defi's except just a bit cheaper.
